The Wisdom of Detachment

During the , Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered a profound teaching on the concept of severing. To sever and let go of various emotional attachments and external conditions may appear to be heartless to the uninitiated. However, in this state of apparent detachment, great wisdom is born. Severing can be described as a form of rebirth. It is not merely an external action; it is, above all, a rigorous exercise of the heart.

The Inner Work of the Mind

The constant fluctuations of the mind are the greatest obstacles to your practice and to achieving an awakened being. When you sever these attachments within your heart, you are truly washing away the dust and grime of samsara. This is the essence of what it means to "see through" and "let go." It is a deep, internal purification that prepares the practitioner for higher levels of meditative concentration.

Severing as a Means to Save

You must understand that severing is merely a process of your practice, not the final destination. The ultimate purpose is to save. After you have severed these ties, you must engage in active and persistent practice. This is done to achieve the Truth and to rediscover your true self. Only then can you truly save yourself and save all beings, helping them leave suffering behind and find the light.

The Boundless Scope of

You are but one among all beings. Your past family members and your are also among these beings. All infinite beings are those whom you must save and deliver. This is the true expression of great compassion and wisdom. By embracing this perspective, you align yourself with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. This message was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
