The Foundation of a Positive Heart

Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on 17 December 2021. To look at things with a positive heart is to have a good heart. When you keep a smile on your face and a joyful expression, the many layers of suffering and obstacles can be resolved. This is not merely a superficial optimism; it is a deep, internal state of being that reflects the purity of your original nature.

The Strength of Steadfastness

To maintain this positive outlook requires the ability to be firm and persistent. You must not allow yourself to be swayed or dragged down by external circumstances. When the world around you seems chaotic or dark, your inner light must remain steady. Do not let your practice be turned toward negativity by the changing conditions of the world. By holding fast to your commitment, you ensure that your path remains clear and bright.

Transforming Suffering into

A positive outlook manifests from the heart. It is infused with positive and active energy. Because your heart transforms, your entire perspective shifts. You move from sorrow to joy, and from suffering to happiness. This transformation is only possible when your , wisdom, mind-capacity, and tolerance are fully revealed. When you cultivate these qualities, you find that the obstacles which once seemed insurmountable begin to dissolve, replaced by a profound sense of peace.

Cultivating the Fruit of

As the teachings say, we must give rise to all and achieve the fruit of Bodhi. Looking at things positively is the manifestation of your good roots and a pure intention. It is an essential condition on the path of learning the Buddha's way to enlightenment. When you look at things positively, your Six Roots—your eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind—will perceive everything in a new light. Your interactions with others will be transformed, and your life will be filled with gratitude and hope. Namo Amituofo.
