The Heart of True Aspiration
The preciousness of aspiration lies in its origin: a sincere heart. When you make a vow or set an intention, it should be rooted in the desire to serve the masses, embodying the spirit of benefiting oneself while simultaneously benefiting others. Everything must arise from your own spontaneous willingness, free from any sense of compulsion or external pressure. Any aspiration that seeks to benefit sentient beings is worthy of praise and encouragement.
When your aspiration is pure and devoid of personal desire, and you put it into practice through your own physical actions without seeking any reward, this is known as merit. However, if you perform these same actions while secretly hoping for a return or recognition, this is known as . Merit is infinite and boundless, whereas blessings are finite and will eventually be exhausted.
