The Gateway to Stillness

Silence is the most fundamental understanding for anyone entering the Buddha hall. When you remain silent and refrain from speaking, your mental notes naturally begin to gather and focus. Those who are sensitive and spiritually alert can perceive the thoughts of others, truly understanding the intentions within their hearts. This is much like the state of existence in the of Ultimate Bliss. In that pure realm, beings do not need to rely on spoken language to communicate. Instead, they connect heart to heart, instantly knowing the intentions of one another. In truth, within the Western Pure Land, everything is perfectly clear and manifest. Silence and a gentle smile are sufficient; why would there be a need for complex thoughts or a restless heart?

Looking Inward to the True Self

Silence invites you to seek everything within, rather than searching for answers in the external world. Consider the reality of your own physical form. If you can clearly and vividly feel the breath of every single cell, see the vast space within every pore, and hear the rhythm of every heartbeat, you will come to a profound realisation. You will understand that this body is not truly something you possess. Rather, it is a collective assembly of immeasurable and boundless cells and living beings. Once you realise this, you will be better equipped to use your body wisely for the path of , to protect every cell and every being within you with , and to treat every life form within your own body with kindness and respect.

Every cell and every being within you is closely related to your own spirit. Therefore, you must use the sacred Buddha-name, Namo Amituofo, to purify the relationship between yourself and all these beings.

Purification Through the Sacred Name

Regardless of what has happened in the past, the most important moment is the present. Right now, you must raise this Buddha-name and allow it to lead every cell and every being within you. When you chant Buddha's name, you may choose the method that best suits your current state: silent chanting, keeping the Buddha-name within your mental notes; loud chanting, opening your mouth to let the sound resonate clearly; or soft chanting, whispering the name with a gentle and focused heart.

You must chant each character clearly and distinctly. Continue this practice until you reach the state of chanting without chanting, and not chanting while still chanting. When you reach the point where your heart is bright, clear, and empty of all attachments, and your body feels light, transparent, and entirely unobstructed, you will have arrived at the moment of total Awakening.
