The Spirit Within the Snowman
An Interview with Venerable Yongning
Recorded on April 27, 2018
This is a record of an interview with Venerable Yongning, who shares a profound account of spiritual deliverance conducted at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. This testimony reveals the hidden spiritual dimensions within the natural world and the of Namo Amituofo. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on April 27, 2018.
Venerable Yongning speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. The pristine, shimmering white of a snow-covered landscape often attracts countless tourists. People travel from far and wide to admire the scenery, take photographs, and play in the snow, their hearts filled with and wonder. Yet, how many realise that within that very snow, there exist immeasurable and boundless sentient beings?
Think about a child playing in the snow, scooping up handfuls to pack into balls, eventually stacking them to form a snowman standing in the centre of the field. Do you know that the moment that snowman is completed, a spirit can immediately attach itself to it? If you possessed the ability to see and hear into these dimensions, you would realise that the snowman can smile and speak; it possesses a spirit. Everything in this world has a spirit. As long as an object has a form, a spirit can find a place to dwell within it."
The Hidden Realms of Snow
"In the space where we performed the deliverance today, there was a vast, expansive snowfield. In one layer of this space, many people were playing—skiing, building snowmen, and engaging in snowball fights. They were having such a wonderful time, completely unaware that they were existing within a specific dimension of the snow.
However, there was another snow-covered space, one defined by a tragic disaster. In this realm, many villagers had been buried by a massive avalanche. Cars, houses, and entire forests were crushed beneath the weight of the heavy snow. The villagers were still suffering, trapped in the biting, relentless cold of that frozen tomb. It was a scene of profound sorrow, hidden from the eyes of the living."
A Girl in a Red Dress
"Under the illumination of the Buddha’s light, the spirits trapped within these snowfields were finally able to find their way out. Among them, I saw a young girl emerging from the form of a snowman. She was wearing a beautiful red dress, her small hands still stained with snow. This was the very snowman she had crafted with her own hands.
I could see the memory playing out: she had been so happy, taking photos with her creation. But then, a sudden, violent snowstorm struck, claiming the lives of the girl and her entire family. In the final, fleeting moment before her breath ceased, her mind was still fixed on the process of building that snowman. Her spirit, in its confusion and attachment, had quickly entered the snowman she had just made. Though the physical snowman had long since melted away, she remained trapped in that frozen space, lingering there for years."
Deliverance and the Path to the West
"Today, under the radiant Buddha’s light, the girl was finally able to step out from the form of the snowman. She was once again the joyful, skipping little girl she had been before the tragedy. With a heart full of delight, she followed Namo Amituofo, seeking rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Seeing her transformation, I am filled with gratitude. It is only through the immeasurable compassion of Namo Amituofo that such lost spirits can be found, delivered from their icy prisons, and guided to the ultimate joy of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Namo Amituofo."
