The True Inheritance of Life
The Thirty-Sixth Letter of Venerable Master Wei Chueh
Recorded on July 25, 2017
This letter was recorded on July 25, 2017, as a message from the late Venerable Master Wei Chueh. In this profound reflection, the Master addresses the true essence of life’s inheritance, the dangers of ego-driven practice, and the necessity of aligning one's life with the wisdom of the Buddha at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre.
Venerable Master Wei Chueh speaks:
"The inheritance of life must possess true, lasting value. If a life is merely the result of the union of a father's and mother's essence, then it is truly nothing more than biological inheritance. It is simply a repetitive cycle of birth, aging, sickness, and death, devoid of any deeper significance. If one lives solely for oneself, that life holds no real value at all. I have only now come to fully understand this profound meaning, because I have begun anew—living my life for the sake of others. I wish to pass on this true inheritance of life; it is a path that exists only for the benefit of others, with no room for ."
The Deviation of the Path
"When I first entered the Buddha’s gate, I shaved my head and joined the monastic order. At that time, I truly established the great vow of renunciation for the sake of others. However, in the later stages of my life, I gradually deviated step by step. My focus narrowed, and I began to live only for my own short-sighted interests. I slowly allowed my eyes to be clouded, becoming completely unable to see my own faults. It was this that ruined my entire life—my life as a monastic. I failed to faithfully pass on the wisdom-life of the Buddha’s teachings. The inheritance of life, when it reached my hands, was severed. The thousands of members of the fourfold assembly who followed me did not truly flow with the authentic blood of the Buddha. What I am speaking of is the inheritance of true life, not the illusory inheritance of flesh and blood. These are not the same; one is unborn and undying, while the other is destined for death and will eventually descend into total darkness."
A Call to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
"The Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is the only place in the world today that carries on this aesthetic of true life. I hope that everyone will come here to inherit the true blood of the Buddha, the wisdom-life of the Buddha, and the of the Buddha. You must practise with sincerity; you must achieve Buddhahood in this very lifetime. Venerable Jiandeng, I, your teacher, hope to see your participation. I have already seen your life as it truly is. If you wish to create something entirely new, you must infuse your practice with the true wisdom of Namo Amituofo. That will be a stream of pure blood that flows through your six meridians. Venerable Jiandeng, I hope you will listen to the words of your teacher. Otherwise, the life you lead will be mixed with worldly attachments and plagued by the doubts of deviation. I have truly seen your life as it is, and I hope you will believe in all of this. Namo Amituofo."
