Teachings from Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

When the physical body is harmed, or when one faces the manifestation of and the grievances of , the resulting suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death often drives people to seek various methods for relief. In our modern world, we are conditioned to believe that medical intervention is the only way to address problems of , emotions, and the mind. This is the education we have received, and consequently, medical researchers tirelessly develop new diagnostic tools and treatments, all aimed at curing the various ailments that plague humanity.

Beyond the Veil of Conventional Perception

However, there exists a profound and vital method for healing the problems of aging and sickness that remains largely unknown to the world. This approach does not rely on medical instruments or clinical examinations. Instead, it is rooted in the purification of the body, heart, and spirit. Through this process, one develops the sensitivity of the (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind) to perceive the underlying issues within the body.

We must realise that physical problems are rarely just physical. They are deeply and inextricably linked to our spiritual state. This body of ours contains the imprints of experiences from accumulated lifetimes, as well as the presence of sentient beings with whom we share a karmic connection. Once these connections are stirred, the laws of karma and cause and effect are activated, triggering various reactions within our body, heart, and spirit. This is what manifests as the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death.

Unveiling the Hidden Causes of Suffering

The state of our spirit cannot be detected by medical equipment. It requires a process of purification, where one gains the ability to engage in communication at the spiritual level. By cultivating one's own virtue and through the diligent practice of the , the innate capabilities of the six sense organs (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, mind) are revealed. This allows the practitioner to soothe the hearts of these spiritual beings. When their grievances are addressed, the physical, emotional, and mental distress they cause can be alleviated, improved, and ultimately resolved.

This is the essence of using the power of the body, heart, and spirit to heal the problems of the body, heart, and spirit. Such a method of body therapy is almost entirely absent from modern education, as the conventional medical system does not touch upon this dimension of existence. Because this spiritual layer is ignored, many illnesses cannot be treated at their root. They are merely suppressed or controlled, only to recur or manifest in new forms later. This cycle is the natural manifestation of karma, forming the typical life of birth, aging, sickness, and death.

A Sanctuary for True Restoration

Conversely, those who are able to receive this spiritual body therapy can address their ailments from the very root. This is a crucial method for one to remain free from the suffering of aging and sickness, to ensure the spirit does not fall into confusion, and to successfully chant Namo Amituofo to attain rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss. This profound body-mind-spirit therapy is currently being practised at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.

We encourage all practitioners to reflect deeply on these teachings. By purifying your heart and spirit, you open the door to true healing and liberation. Do not let your life pass by in the cycle of suffering; instead, use this precious human life to cultivate virtue, resolve your karmic debts, and walk the path toward the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
