This is a record of an interview with Lee Kuan Yew, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now reflects upon the nature of existence, the truth of reincarnation, and the profound clarity he has found beyond his life as a statesman. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxi, on September 1, 2018.

Lee Kuan Yew speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Lee Kuan Yew. Since arriving here, I have witnessed the cool, refreshing world of the Pure Land, and when I look back at the murky, turbulent world of humanity, the contrast is staggering. It is truly heartbreaking to realise that this vast difference stems entirely from the human heart! I feel a deep sense of sorrow when I think about it. Even when humans reach the end of their lives and become spirits, many still do not understand how to let go of their attachment. They remain trapped by the and , which is exactly what leads to the reincarnation that everyone speaks of. They exist within this cycle, suffering immensely, yet they are simply unable to truly let go of their delusions, their attachment, and their discriminations. Without the benefit of true Buddha’s teachings, it is incredibly difficult for them to change. It was only because the Buddha’s teachings brought such a profound change to my own heart that I was able to wake up and finally understand the nature of all things.

The Terrifying Reality of Reincarnation

The 'truth' I speak of is the ability to see just how much pain I have endured throughout my many lives, rather than being fixated on the events of just one lifetime. When I look at the current state of the world, I have such different . Humans often forget how desperately they want to be liberated from all of this suffering. If the Buddha’s teachings had not guided me away from that path, I would still be trapped in the illusion that I am merely 'Lee Kuan Yew.' I would have no idea what my past names were, or what I had done in those previous lives. Without even realising it, I had forgotten myself entirely, and I had forgotten everything I was meant to awaken to. This is truly terrifying! The most frightening aspect of reincarnation is that one does not even know how to wake up. Having seen these truths clearly, I only hope that by sharing my experience, I can help everyone else see the reality of their own existence. Everyone’s are actually greater than mine, because when I was still in the world, I could not see any of this. Now, I only hope that everyone can understand these principles as soon as possible. Spreading this goodness is the most important act of salvation one can perform.

A Father's Message to His Son

My son, Hsien Loong, if you could only see and understand these truths, your life would be far more complete and authentic. There is so much turmoil in the world, and I have come to realise that it cannot be resolved through struggle or competition. It is only through letting go and finding peace of mind that one can truly achieve anything of value. These are truths that your father only understands now. I hope that you can live a better life, and I hope that you will come here to see me. I truly wish to speak with you.

Your father is here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia, waiting to meet you. I hope you can set aside the busyness of the world and give yourself the gift of a spiritual journey. I am waiting for you here, and I want to introduce you to a new opportunity for life. Namo Amituofo."
