The Truth of the Streets and the Burden of Spirits
An Interview with the Spirit of Koo Chung-liang
Recorded on August 15, 2018, by Chief Writer Shi Faxin
This is a record of an interview with the spirit of Koo Chung-liang, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now reflects upon the nature of spiritual existence and the profound necessity of salvation. This account was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on August 15, 2018.
Koo Chung-liang speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. When you truly stop to contemplate it, life and death are merely a matter of a single breath. When that breath fails, you suddenly find yourself like one of those wandering spirits on the street—with nowhere to go. You are caught in a dilemma: should you attach yourself to someone else's body or not? It is a miserable state of existence. As various accumulate, the spirit becomes increasingly heavy. People often mistake this heaviness for the natural decline of old age, but that is simply not the case.
The Densely Packed Reality of the Human Body
In truth, there are millions of spirits attached to the human form. Some occupy the shoulders, others cling to the legs; the entire body is covered in a densely packed layer of these beings. If you were to look at every person walking down the street with a clear, spiritual perspective, you would see that everyone is exactly the same. Spirits are constantly weaving in and out of , and those who enter but do not leave simply remain inside, taking up residence within the flesh.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have been able to see this truth clearly. Practitioner Su performs for my physical form every single day. This provides the spirits attached to me and my karmic creditors a genuine opportunity to be saved. This is the true skill of Practitioner Su—the ability to transform great disasters into minor issues, and minor issues into nothing at all. Without this, my own body would have long ago become unbearable to carry. It is like being a puppet for the souls attached to you; you lose the ability to be the master of your own life.
The Struggle for Liberation
The older you get, and the more you dwell on your thoughts, the less control you have. It becomes incredibly difficult to change the attachments you have cultivated for decades. This is the actual reality of the human body. Practitioner Su reveals this truth and helps us break through it; this is what Chao Du is truly about. Several assemblies have already been held in Taiwan to help both the living and the spirits, but far too few people are aware of them. If people truly understood, they would surely flock to these events, because Practitioner Su possesses the true, great cultivation.
My sincere vow is to support these Dharma assemblies and to support the Village. My physical body has reached a point of no return; I only wish to move forward with a single heart. The greed, anger, delusion, and arrogance that I carry on my back can only be balanced through daily purification. If I can influence even one of my own habits, perhaps my soul will finally be able to hear the cries I am making for my own body. The truth that is revealed to me during the Chao Du process is something I will hold firmly in my memory forever.
Namo Amituofo."
