Words of Namo Amituofo, recorded by Venerable HaiZe.

Namo Amituofo's discourse:

The spring flows without ceasing, nourishing all earthly creatures so that they may thrive and continue their existence. The spring is fully aware of its vital responsibility; therefore, it never dares to be negligent. In every passing second, it remembers its duty, and thus, it continues to gush forth its natural, sweet, and life-giving mountain water.

The Eternal Flow of Life

The six-character name of Namo Amituofo acts as an eternal spring. The source of this divine spring is the heart of , flowing directly into the heart and the entire body of every person who chants the Buddha-name.

How does this spring manifest in your own life? It depends entirely on the state of your heart. When the heart of the practitioner is filled with , Wisdom, tolerance, and softness, the spring that flows forth is natural and sweet. Every single recitation of the Buddha-name will then carry the infinite meritorious power of the Buddha's name, along with its profound capacity to receive and transform all beings.

The Purity of the Chanting Heart

However, we must be vigilant. If the heart of the practitioner is filled with hesitation or discriminations, the spring that flows forth will carry a bitter, astringent taste. In such a state, the meritorious power of the Buddha's name, its capacity to receive, and its inherent energy will be significantly diminished.

If the heart of the practitioner is clouded by the —greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance, and doubt—the spring that flows forth will be nothing more than ordinary water. In this state, the chanting of the Buddha-name is described as an empty recitation, because it is not in sync with the Buddha-heart.

Returning to the Original Nature

It is my sincere wish that all beings can realise their true nature. When you reach this state of being an awakened being, you will understand that all things are boundless and infinite. You must learn to treat all people and all circumstances with a heart of non-attachment and true suchness.

By aligning your heart with the heart of Amitabha, you become a source of this divine spring yourself. You become the very origin point of this life-giving water, ensuring that the spring flows forth in your life, and in the lives of others, without end.
