The Supreme Virtue of Repentance

There is a timeless saying that reminds us: to realise one's mistakes and be able to correct them is the greatest of all virtues. Indeed, there is no goodness that surpasses the act of sincere repentance. When you acknowledge your faults and take active steps to change, you are performing a profound service to your own spiritual growth. This is the foundation upon which all true progress is built.

How many of us remain trapped in the darkness of confusion, unable to even recognise the errors we commit? We often create negative without awareness, and even when we are confronted with the truth of our actions, we continue to repeat the same mistakes. Those who recognise their faults but refuse to change, or worse, continue to create further negative karma, will inevitably face suffering. Because they have sown the seeds of negativity, they must eventually reap the bitter fruit of those actions. Even those who remain in ignorance, failing to see their own errors, are not exempt from this process; they too must endure the consequences of their deeds.

The Inescapable Laws of Cause and Effect

The laws of karma and cause and effect are absolute; they never pass by in vain. If you have created negative karma, you will certainly experience the resulting suffering. Consequently, people wander through the cycle of rebirth, enduring countless pains and hardships. You must possess the wisdom to see this clearly. Do not remain in a state of foolishness, for all the suffering you experience is self-created and self-inflicted. No one can bear these consequences for you; you must take responsibility for your own journey.

  • Understand the Law: Recognise that every action has a corresponding result.
  • Cherish the Truth: Do not let the and the causes and effects pass by without reflection.
  • Take Responsibility: Understand that your suffering is a result of your own past choices.

Even if you are currently experiencing the retribution of past negative karma, you must act quickly to purify your heart and change your ways. Do not continue to create new negative karma, for this only ensures that you will continue to suffer in the future.

A Compassionate Reminder to the Fourfold Assembly

Namo Amituofo and I, your teacher, frequently counsel you with great urgency: you must correct your mistakes immediately and distance yourself from all negative karma! I have repeatedly reminded the fourfold assembly of the necessity of changing one's personality traits. This is not a minor detail; it is a matter of the utmost importance. Do not ignore this guidance, for your spiritual liberation depends upon it.

There is a verse that states: "Even after hundreds of kalpas, the karma one has created does not vanish. When the causal conditions meet, the fruit of that karma will be experienced by oneself." This explains that even after an incredibly long period of time, the causes and effects we have set in motion remain clearly recorded within our . They do not simply dissipate or disappear.

The Eternal Record of the Alaya

Even the smallest action or the most minor instance of suffering is stored within this deep, foundational consciousness. After hundreds of kalpas, when the right conditions arise, you will still be required to experience the fruit of those actions. The laws of karma and cause and effect are precise and unyielding. You must be extremely cautious in every thought, word, and deed. Please, take this teaching to heart and walk the path of purification with diligence and sincerity.
