A Realm Beyond Time and Space

The of Ultimate Bliss is a spiritual world of unparalleled magnificence. It was constructed by , whose body encompasses the entire Realm, over a period of five kalpas. This is not a world built by human hands or mechanical engineering; it is a manifestation of the highest spiritual attainment, created by an awakened being who has realised his true nature and attained Buddhahood.

When we speak of the technology of the Western Pure Land, we are describing something that far transcends our modern understanding. It is technology in its most refined and ultimate form. It is so advanced that our current human technology cannot even begin to compare with it. The energy found within the Western Pure Land is infinite and of the highest quality. It is the very energy required for the survival of stars and galaxies throughout the cosmos. This is why so many beings across the universe yearn to go there.

The Infinite Nature of the Pure Land

The Western Pure Land is immeasurable and boundless. Its capacity to know and to be known is infinite, existing entirely without the limitations of time or space. Because of this, it can embrace and contain an infinite number of beings. It does not suffer from the restrictions of location, timing, or specific requirements. It is perfectly designed to satisfy the needs of every single being who arrives there.

In contrast, our modern technology and the virtual worlds we create are inherently limited. They are bound by time, restricted by the specific devices we use, and limited in their application. They can never provide the true, lasting satisfaction that the Western Pure Land offers.

Because Amitabha Buddha possesses infinite equality, , wisdom, mind-capacity, tolerance, and pure goodness, He is able to create a world that is equally infinite. Consider the abundance of the Western Pure Land:

  • Infinite Sustenance: Food, clothing, and shelter are provided instantly the moment one thinks of them.
  • Instantaneous Travel: One can travel to any Buddha-land in the universe in a single, instantaneous moment.
  • Infinite Life: There is no limit to one's lifespan, meaning there is no time constraint on one's practice until one attains Buddhahood.
  • Infinite Light: The light of the Pure Land is boundless, illuminating all corners of the Dharma Realm.
  • Infinite Beauty: Fragrant flowers and divine scents are ever-present.
  • Infinite Wealth: The ground is paved with gold, and the seven precious treasures are visible everywhere.

These are merely a few examples of the infinite qualities of that realm; truly, it is impossible to describe them all in words.

The Suffering of the Finite World

In contrast, the world that we currently inhabit is defined by impermanence. We are trapped in the cycle of suffering, aging, falling ill, and dying in the cycle of reincarnation. Our lives are often driven by the pursuit of money, private gain, and mere survival. We live in a world of discrimination and inequality, where our lives are short and our resources are finite.

The technology and worlds we create here reflect these same limitations. They are built upon discrimination and inequality, and they are certainly not available for everyone to enjoy or use equally. This is why the Western Pure Land is so infinitely superior. It is the reason why so many creatures and beings across the universe pray and strive to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.

The Path to Rebirth

The Infinite Life Sutra and the Amitabha Sutra provide detailed descriptions of Amitabha Buddha, His Forty-eight Great Vows, and the wonders of the Western Pure Land. If you hear these teachings, I encourage you to cultivate Faith, Vows, and Practice. Hold the Buddha-name of Namo Amituofo in your heart without interruption. By following the guidance of a true spiritual friend, you will be able to practise diligently and see your wish to be reborn in the West fulfilled.
