The Reality of Spiritual Attachment

Spiritual attachment refers to the phenomenon where spirit realm beings attach themselves to a human body. Once attached, these beings become an integral part of the person's internal spiritual landscape. They do not merely exist in silence; they actively interfere with the host's physical body, their movements, their speech, their thoughts, and their overall health. This is a reality that many in the modern world overlook, yet it is a constant factor in our daily lives.

These attached spirits can take many forms, originating from various realms of existence:

  • Ghost realm beings: This includes lonely wandering spirits, adults, children, and individuals of all ages who have passed on but remain trapped in the cycle of rebirth.
  • Nature spirits: These are beings associated with the natural world, such as flower spirits, grass spirits, and tree spirits.
  • Other entities: This category encompasses a vast array of beings, including deities, ghosts, and various entities from the Demon Realm.

The Constant Vulnerability of the Mind

Spiritual attachment is not a rare occurrence; it can happen 24/7, at any time and in any place. Even during sleep, when we believe we are resting, we remain vulnerable to these attachments. In fact, the longer one sleeps, the greater the opportunity for spirits to attach themselves. This is why, upon waking, one may often feel an inexplicable sense of fatigue, heaviness, or lethargy that does not seem to stem from physical exertion alone.

The nature of the spirits we attract is directly linked to the state of our own hearts and minds. Consider the following principles:

  • If your heart harbours goodness: Even the spirits that are drawn to you will be those who also possess good intentions.
  • If your heart harbours evil thoughts: The spirits that are attracted to you will likewise be those who carry evil intentions.

Regardless of whether these attached spirits are benevolent or malevolent, they are external beings—often our , ghost realm beings, or other wandering spirits seeking a connection.

The Protective Power of Chanting

Chanting Buddha's name is an active, powerful method of practice that protects you from such attachments. It is a proactive shield. Unfortunately, many people in this world are unaware of this wonderful method. To be effective, one must chant with a continuous, unbroken flow of pure thoughts, allowing oneself to be fully immersed in the Buddha's .

When you commit yourself to this practice, two significant transformations occur:

  1. You cease to be governed by delusion, discrimination, and attachment: By focusing your every thought and intention on the name of Namo Amituofo, you withdraw your attention from the distractions that invite spiritual interference.
  2. You maintain a constant state of : By chanting 24/7, you prevent the conditions that allow spirits to attach to you. This practice is highly effective in reducing of being drowsy and prevents you from slipping into the states of where such interference thrives.

Transforming and Saving All Beings

If your practice of chanting is sincere and steady, you may even be able to transform the spirits that have already attached to you. When these spirits are moved by the power of the Buddha's name, they may begin to chant Buddha's name alongside you. This is a profound moment: the spirits within your body are now chanting with you, and they too receive the Buddha's salvation.

This includes your parents, teachers, and karmic creditors from countless lifetimes who may be residing within you. Through your practice, they are all given the opportunity to be saved, to leave suffering behind, and to find happiness in the of Ultimate Bliss. Let us continue to chant with a sincere heart, for the benefit of all beings.
