A Beautiful Dream: An Interview with the Spirit of Lee Kuan Yew
Reflections on the Cycle of Reincarnation and the Western Pure Land
Recorded on June 1, 2018, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This interview was conducted with the spirit of Lee Kuan Yew, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He reflects upon the nature of his life, the cycle of reincarnation, and the ultimate truth of existence. This session was recorded on June 1, 2018, and transcribed by the disciple Shi Faxin.
Lee Kuan Yew speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. What is the true perfection of life? Is it having a perfect family or a perfect career? Perfection does not allow for any gaps, for if there is a gap, there is a leak. A life with leaks is like a life with missing corners—a life of regret. Even so, it is impossible for any life to be truly perfect. Not being able to be with the one you love most is a regret; not obtaining what you desire is a regret; losing family members is a regret. Even in a life that seems perfect, one must still experience these joys and sorrows, these partings and reunions. It is a cycle that never seems to end."
The Accumulation of Memories and the Cycle of Samsara
"Every little detail of life seems to leave a memory upon the heart. The accumulation of these layers of memory is what we call the cycle of reincarnation. Think about it—a dancing girl becomes a flower; a strong man wielding a large watermelon knife in the market becomes a watermelon. An elderly person who spent their life climbing stairs enters a new space; a thug becomes a foul-smelling stone; a timid man becomes a turtle; a mother who worried constantly about her children enters the ghost realm; a high-ranking official falls into the hells; a Taoist priest turns into an elixir pill. It is all so strange, yet so inevitable."
The Fleeting Nature of Existence
"Life with sound transforms into life without sound, and life without sound transforms back into life with sound. Life is so fleeting, so full of unpredictable changes. In the end, what is there left to haggle over? Looking at the human world from the perspective of the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, these role changes are nothing more than the blink of an eye. A person’s entire life—all the grabbing, all the wanting—is merely an over-attachment to the role they are currently playing. It is a performance that ends as quickly as it begins."
A Dream Leading to the West
"One must realise that everything is false. The pursuit in this life should be a beautiful dream—a beautiful dream that moves steadily toward the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. There is no need for competition or plunder; there is only . If you are fortunate enough to encounter the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre and join the ranks of those saving the world, that is the most beautiful dream within a dream. It is a path of light that transcends all worldly suffering.
There is no need to haggle over anything in life. Look at Practitioner Su, who has served all his life with a heart of , walking a straight path to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is the final destination for all of us spirits. I hope that everyone can walk with the Buddha and join in the mission to save the world. Namo Amituofo."
