A Grandfather's Message from the Western Pure Land

An Interview with Lay Practitioner Wu Man

Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre3 min read0 views

This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Wu Man, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his journey and his message to his granddaughter, Lay Practitioner He Huiping. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on December 17, 2021.

Lay Practitioner Wu Man speaks:

"My granddaughter is truly capable. Seeing her current dedication and achievements, I am deeply satisfied. When I realised that it was my own granddaughter who had invited Practitioner Su to rescue me, my heart was filled with such profound emotion. I want to tell her: your grandfather and grandmother have both arrived at the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss!

A Beauty Beyond Human Comprehension

The human world could never offer a place as magnificent as this. When I first arrived here, I was completely stunned. It is so beautiful—truly, it is beyond words! Every single flower and every tree here is entirely different from anything in the human world. They are all made of precious jewels, treasures that simply do not exist in the world of men. I had never seen anything like it; it is breathtakingly beautiful!

Upon arriving in the Western Land, I was so captivated by the scenery that I momentarily forgot to kneel before the Buddha to express my gratitude. I quickly knelt down. Looking at the compassionate Namo Amituofo before me, I could not hold back my tears. The cycle of rebirth is truly, truly agonising! I am so grateful to Namo Amituofo for saving us, for halting our cycle of rebirth, and for allowing us to come to this magnificent Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.

Gratitude for Deliverance

I also knelt to thank Practitioner Su. If it were not for Practitioner Su guiding me to the Western Land, I would never have had such an opportunity. I am truly, deeply grateful to Practitioner Su!

I want to ask my granddaughter, Huiping: having saved so many members of our family, have you awakened to the truth yourself? Your grandfather, grandmother, and you, Huiping, were once a family, but after your grandfather and grandmother passed away, we were each left alone in the darkness of samsara. You must see this clearly, because I know that you are still attached—even this family life of yours is something you find difficult to let go of.

The Reality of Samsara

If I did not have this opportunity to speak to you, I would have no way of telling you just how terrifying the cycle of rebirth really is! You must never create , not even the slightest bit, for every action must be repaid. Your grandfather has already tasted that bitterness, and I pray that you do not walk the same path I did. You must ensure that you can return to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Do not take the human world as real; it is merely a place for a very brief stay.

When it is time to let go, you must let go. No matter how much wealth you accumulate, you cannot take any of it with you in the end—you cannot take anything. Therefore, you must start learning to let go right now. Chant Namo Amituofo diligently and prepare for your own future. Everyone must do this if they wish to have the chance to return to the Western Land.

The Vital Importance of Chanting

This is my first time truly knowing the Pure Land, and my first time being so close to Namo Amituofo. I want to tell everyone: chanting Namo Amituofo is truly the most important thing! One may live a life of poverty, but one must never forget to chant Namo Amituofo and seek rebirth in the Western Land. Human life is only a fleeting moment, but the cycle of rebirth after death is what truly lasts for an eternity. You are all intelligent people; you must see this fact clearly and chant Namo Amituofo with all your heart!

Wu Man bows in gratitude and respect. Namo Amituofo."
