Recorded on January 15, 2020
This is a record of an interview with Wu Zhou Wang-si, the mother of Lay Practitioner Wu Jia-jin. She sought deliverance through at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her transition from the profound suffering of the human realm to the peace of the Western Pure Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on January 15, 2020.
Wu Zhou Wang-si speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Wu Zhou Wang-si. Ah-jin, my son, it is your mother. I can finally speak to you. I have waited for such a long time, longing to open my mouth and speak, but I was simply speechless. Being a human is so painful, so incredibly painful! Lying in that bed for so long, relying on you and Ah-xiu to care for me—it was truly exhausting for you both. Thank you so much! It is fortunate that you have such a filial heart; you knew to help your mother by arranging for Chao Du. Only then could your mother be saved from such suffering. Otherwise, dragging that broken body around was useless; it only kept you tied down, unable to move freely. My heart aches for you, and I am so sorry for the burden I placed upon you."
The Weight of Karmic Debt
"I had no idea that I owed so many people so much. Do you know why I was so afraid to go to the Western Pure Land? Because even after you helped me with one hundred sessions of Chao Du, my found me here. There were so many of them! I was terrified of encountering them. How could I have accumulated so much debt and such heavy in my past lives? If it were not for those one hundred sessions, my body would still be lying on that bed, being tormented by my karmic creditors. I have nothing left to say for myself. Now that I have listened to the sutras, I understand that these are all the laws of karma and cause and effect. When you encounter them, you must repay them. It is just that you and Ah-xiu had to suffer along with me!"
The Grace of the Western Pure Land
"I am so grateful to Practitioner Su! Thank you for leading me into this place. This is the Western Pure Land! It is truly beautiful, truly wonderful! To think that I, of all people, could actually arrive in such a magnificent place! This is all due to the of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. After a lifetime of struggle, to be able to reach this place makes all the suffering I endured before seem worth it."
A Life of Regret and Redemption
"Ah-jin, do you ever think about the time I spent as an earthworm? It was truly not worth it. The bitter life I lived while in the world, the resentment and the sense of injustice I felt—it was I who drew those karmic creditors to me, giving them the opportunity to demand repayment. These debts are so difficult to settle. Seeing them now, my heart is truly heavy with sorrow. I am so sorry. I did not intentionally mean to harm you all in the past; I am truly, deeply sorry. Now that my son, Ah-jin, has helped me perform one hundred sessions of Chao Du, I hope that these accounts can finally be settled. Practitioner Su possesses such profound skills; she can even help deliver you all to the Western Pure Land during the assembly. I am so sorry! I never intended for things to turn out this way!"
A Final Message of Gratitude
"Ah-jin, please tell Practitioner Su that I am so grateful! It is wonderful that you have chosen to stay at the temple to serve as a volunteer. Your mother is so happy for you. You must continue to work hard, chant Buddha's name diligently, and repay the kindness of Namo Amituofo! Please also tell Ah-xiu that I am sorry; thank you for enduring all that hardship with me for so many years. Thank you! Thank you! Namo Amituofo."
