This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Hu Yuqing, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. She now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon her journey following her passing, as recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on January 16, 2026.
Lay Practitioner Hu Yuqing speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Hu Yuqing, and I am here to tell you that I have truly arrived in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss! This time, it is real—I have finally reached the place I have dreamt of my entire life. I never imagined that after all this time, it would be through my daughter Huiyuan’s connection to the Buddha that I would eventually find my way here.
A Dream Realised
My dear Huiyuan, Namo Amituofo is truly, profoundly compassionate. And Practitioner Su—he reached out and took my hand, and in an instant, I was here. Before this, when I was in the , I was already filled with such awe and wonder, though at that time, I did not have the freedom to travel everywhere. But now, having arrived in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, I feel completely unburdened. All my worries have vanished. I have suddenly transformed into a youthful, vibrant being, full of energy! I am no longer the elderly, frail mother you once knew. I am so deeply grateful to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su for allowing my daughter to draw closer to the Buddha, to learn the true skills of the , and to perform the Chao Du for her mother. The Buddha is truly, truly magnificent!
The Truth About Rebirth
I spent my whole life chanting the Buddha's name, yet I was never able to reach the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss on my own. I was fortunate enough to be reborn in the heavenly realms, which is a great blessing in itself, but it is not the same as this. I have come to realise that for most people who chant, unless they truly encounter the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre and learn how to genuinely let go of everything, reaching the Western Pure Land is not an easy task at all. How could it be? It is only after arriving in this spiritual world that I have come to understand so many truths that I never heard while practising in the human world. It is truly inconceivable! The high-tech nature of the Buddha’s teachings is exactly this.
The Hidden Truths of the Human World
From my perspective here in the spiritual world, I can see why so few practitioners of the Pure Land school today are able to avoid illness in their old age, and why they have so little assurance of being reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is because of human selfishness—a selfishness that is becoming increasingly difficult to detect. People look at someone and think they are wonderful, but they cannot see the inner world of the human heart. Now that I am here, I finally understand that the suffering in the human world is truly, intensely bitter. To find someone who is truly awake and clear-headed is an incredibly difficult task.
Human beings cannot afford to hold onto even a shred of selfishness. If you do, you are the one who will inevitably suffer the loss, and you are the one who will endure the pain. The spiritual world has shown me how many beings are interfering with us from both inside and outside our bodies. Only now do I understand that this is the true reality of human life.
A Mother’s Guidance to Her Daughter
My daughter Huiyuan, you are an honest person. You must continue to study the Buddha’s teachings diligently. Be grounded and work hard to change your own personality, especially your stubborn opinions and fixed views. If you think negatively—if you think that you are bad, or that others are bad, or that a situation is bad—then you are actually inviting those spirits to find you. You must listen to the words of Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su. If you follow the Buddha with a truly single-minded heart, your path will become much smoother. I hope you will continue to chant Namo Amituofo with sincerity, so that in the future, you can help many, many others.
Namo Amituofo."
