In this twenty-first talk, Practitioner Su invites us to contemplate the profound metaphor of our existence as a voyage across an endless, turbulent sea. How many of us feel adrift, tossed by the waves of and the winds of our own desires? We often find ourselves lost in the vastness of the six realms of rebirth, searching for a harbour that remains elusive.

Navigating the Vast Ocean of Samsara

We are all travellers upon the ocean of samsara. Like a ship without a rudder, we are often at the mercy of the currents of our own past actions. We drift from one life to the next, experiencing the rise and fall of fortune. This life at sea is filled with both calm waters and treacherous storms, yet we often forget that we have the power to steer our vessel toward the ultimate destination. We must realise that our true nature is not the ship itself, but the one who navigates it.

The Compass of Faith and Vows

To navigate this vast expanse, we require more than just worldly knowledge. We require the true compass of Faith, Vows, and Practice. By chanting Namo Amituofo, we align our hearts with the infinite of the Buddha. This is the only way to ensure that our vessel stays on the right course, guided by the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way. When we hold the Buddha's name firmly in our hearts, the storms of the lose their power to blow us off course.

Returning to the Shore of the

The ultimate goal of our journey is to leave suffering behind and find happiness in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. When we finally reach that shore, we shall be free from the cycle of rebirth. Let us cherish every moment of this voyage, keeping our focus on the name of Namo Amituofo, so that we may one day arrive safely at the Land of Eternal Tranquil Light. This is the promise of the Buddha, and it is the destination that awaits all who sincerely practise.
