The Spiritual Roots of Our Environment

On the fourth of September, 2017, the disciple Shi Faxi respectfully invited Namo Amituofo to provide guidance regarding the recent lack of rainfall in Australia. Namo Amituofo offered these profound teachings on the nature of our environment and the interconnectedness of all life.

The heavens appear grey and hazy, yet the sweet dew of rain does not descend. This is because the region has entered a dry season, resulting in a natural scarcity of precipitation. The land of Australia possesses a distinct climate, where the dry and wet seasons bring significant variations in rainfall and moisture. When the entire year remains arid with little dew, the land we inhabit is also following the inevitable laws of and cause and effect.

The Collective Karma of Humanity

The fortunes and misfortunes of the world are determined by the laws of karma and cause and effect. The land upon which we reside is shaped by our Collective Karma. We are born together, we perish together, and we share in the same and disasters. Climate change is not a phenomenon that has emerged only in recent years; it has been manifesting for a long time as a global transformation. This shift mirrors the state of the human heart, which has increasingly turned toward evil.

Humanity no longer lives in harmony with the laws of nature. Instead, our actions have caused destruction and devastation:

  • The clearing of rainforests and the reckless exploitation of land.Heavy industrial pollution that poisons the earth and air.The destruction of the ozone layer through radiation and harmful emissions.

Because we do not live in peace with the natural world, the resulting chaos is a fault that lies within ourselves. The people must collectively bear the consequences of this shared karma. In this world, there is no event that occurs without a cause. We are simply reaping what we have sown, and the cycle of repayment continues as it always has.

The Path of Transformation

The laws of nature are impartial and selfless. They benefit all beings without any intention of favouritism. However, when our own desires obstruct the well-being of others, or when we seek gain through destruction and harmful conduct, we create suffering. The world is currently in a state of decline, and climate change is a reflection of the distorted thoughts within the human heart. In this Age of Decline, why would we not consider this a critical time? We must cease all evil thoughts and dedicate ourselves entirely to the practice of goodness.

You must embody the teachings of the Buddha and inspire the masses. By learning from the Buddha, you can transform your heart. Everything in the universe is one entity; there is no difference between races, and even within the ecological system, all beings possess the same spirit. Every life is born from the causes of the past, and our actions in this present life determine the fruits we will reap in the future.

The Power of a Compassionate Heart

The Buddha teaches that while we are bound by our karmic bodies, we can transform them into bodies of vows. How can we achieve this? By practising goodness. Within the realm of our thoughts, we must turn away from evil and focus solely on the good. When our intentions are pure and kind, everything we encounter will be purified. By transforming our intentions into virtuous vows, we create a path of life rooted in goodness. The climate and the ecological environment can be changed by the power of this collective goodness. Through the transformation of our internal energy, we can alter the external world. The power of a sincere, good intention is truly immense.

Human nature is originally good, but it has been stained by evil. This is why the Buddha's education is so vital. We must teach the human heart to align with the Buddha-heart, thereby transforming the karmic confusion of this life. By using the power of goodness, we can achieve immeasurable results. We must cultivate a heart of and act with a vast, inclusive mind-capacity. Transforming the world is a responsibility that belongs to everyone. Because we are bound by collective karma, we should learn and practise together.

The variations in our climate can still be reversed. Do not be attached to this world for the sake of worldly gain; instead, live to save the world. By saving all beings from their karma and guiding all spirits toward liberation, we create a better future for everyone. When we are all good, the world will naturally become good.
