Words of Namo Amituofo, recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
In this world, it is truly difficult to discern the boundary between the real and the illusory. We treat the play of life as if it were absolute reality, and from this, endless suffering is born. Matters that were originally unrelated become deeply entangled, and it becomes arduous to separate them or to let them go. We have inverted the truth and the false; we allow our —who are merely guests—to take the seat of the master, while our true self, the rightful master, remains in the dark, its light obscured.
The Illusion of the Mundane World
Originally, we possess the pure, luminous nature of the Tathagata. Yet, what we manifest now is the appearance of ordinary beings. One moment we are a wealthy young master, the next a beautiful maiden. At one time we may appear in royal dignity, only to become a prisoner in the next. These scenes change thousands of times. When will this cycle of rebirth and its false appearances ever cease? Every scene is defined by aging, sickness, and death.
The Wandering Spirit
Where has our unborn and undying nature gone? We wander everywhere, becoming lonely spirits. Where is our original true self? We are trapped in suffering, unable to take charge, yet it has never truly left us. The demon crowds mistake the false for the real, creating heavy and suffering extreme retribution. Fortunately, Practitioner Su has appeared in this world to save these beings and rescue countless demons.
The of Practitioner Su
Such a practitioner should be well-protected, not attacked by spells that cause bodily suffering. The demons should listen to the counsel and cease their actions. This body is born from the combination of multiple . Our karmic creditors come to collect their debts through aging, sickness, and death. We experience the cause and effect of good and evil, creating karma and suffering. When our lifespan ends, the spirit leaves . Therefore, this is a false body, not a permanent one. Do not mistake the false for the real, for this only obstructs your practice and prevents you from seeing your true self.
