Expanding the Horizon of Compassion
An Interview with Jeffrey Koo Jr.
Reflections on Service and the Dharma, August 22, 2018
Every day, the performs , participating in the ranks of saviors. This is a record of a sharing session regarding the process of saving the world and rediscovering one's true self. The following is an interview with Jeffrey Koo Jr., who sought deliverance through the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. This sharing session was recorded on August 22, 2018.
Jeffrey Koo Jr. speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. The occurrence of natural disasters and human-made calamities is deeply connected to the state of the human heart. Perhaps those in positions of power or those with great wealth do not always concern themselves with such matters. People often live within their own confined circles, rarely stepping out to view the wider world. In reality, the world is changing every single day. It becomes more advanced, yet it also experiences the highs and lows of economic cycles. The Goodness or lack thereof in the human heart is entirely influenced by these external conditions. Our minds are bound by the pursuit of profit, economic stability, and mere survival. Most of our time is spent thinking only of our own interests and the interests of our immediate families. Truly selfless individuals, those who give without reservation, are almost impossible to find. This is how the ocean of binds us all together—it is the Collective Karma of the people.
The Clarity of Spiritual Vision
Through participating in the Chao Du ceremonies alongside Practitioner Su, I have come to see this very clearly. Take the drought affecting the nation, for instance; if it continues to worsen, we will reach a point where there is no water left. Life in such a state would be unimaginable. Practitioner Su has been tirelessly promoting the transformation of the heart through the Buddha’s teachings. Often, I reflect that my own perspective—my 'pattern' or 'scope'—needs to be expanded much further. It is not enough to simply focus on the fact that I have not yet achieved unity with my own body; perhaps my vow must be made even greater. Only then can Namo Amituofo provide the necessary , and only then will sentient beings be able to see my true, sincere heart.
Transcending the Confines of Space
Our busy lives pass day by day, one after another. The universe is gradually shifting toward a more positive state, yet humanity remains largely trapped within the limitations of physical space. If we can step out of these narrow spaces, we can serve others more effectively. Transforming the heart, transforming our thoughts, and transforming our —these are the things I project onto my own heart every single day. The sound of Namo Amituofo flows, with Taiwan and Hong Kong serving as the starting points; the potential for the future is truly limitless. The Namo Amituofo Villages being promoted are direct paths leading to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. By settling more people in these places, we ensure their peace. When we look upon all things with this clarity, we will find that we each have a significant role to play in this great work. Namo Amituofo."
