Gu Liansong: From the Depths of Hell to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss

The Illusion of Worldly Success

I am Gu Liansong. In my life in the human world, I served as the chairman of the CTBC Group. My son, Gu Zhongliang, is now one of the leaders who manages the family affairs. During my time in the human world, I held many titles and experienced many significant events. After I passed away, I left behind a legacy that my family continues to manage, generation after generation. To the human world, we are a prominent and distinguished family. However, the reality of one's existence after death is something that remains unknown to those still living, as the story of a person usually ends at the funeral.

Although I am now transmitting this message from the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, my heart is filled with a complex mixture of emotions. My life spanned seventy-nine years, from my birth until my passing due to illness abroad. My journey was filled with both peaks and valleys; I experienced moments of great splendour and success, as well as times of deep loneliness and helplessness. Yet, I endured it all. This is what we call destiny. When the end finally came, I could not take a single cent of my wealth with me. What I did carry, however, were the countless seeds of karma I had sown throughout my life.

The Unseen Reality of the Hells

After I died, my spirit descended into the hells. There, I was confronted with a long, detailed list of my transgressions. These were the sins I had accumulated during the process of my hard work, my strategic planning, and the decisions I made as a businessman. The suffering in the hells is truly beyond description and seems to have no end! The hells truly exist; one must never be stubborn or dismissive. People in the human world often feel a sense of satisfaction when they reach their goals, but the laws of karma and cause and effect are often far more precise and detailed than people realise. If you perform Goodness, you will taste the sweet fruits of your actions; if you perform evil, you must inevitably face the consequences. This is the absolute fairness of the universe! It was Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre who reached into the depths of hell and saved me. I am eternally grateful to you for helping me leave suffering behind.

The Path to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss

After being rescued, I spent time at the temple listening to the teachings of the Buddha. It was only then that Practitioner Su guided me into the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This realm is a place of supreme joy and beauty. Through listening to the Dharma, I finally understood many profound truths that had eluded me during my life.

I have composed a short verse to reflect on my journey:

The glory and wealth of the world vanish in the blink of an eye. After one life ends, another begins. Not knowing where the cycle of rebirth would lead me, I found myself in the hells, enduring painful retribution. Practitioner Su, in his great compassion, saved Gu Liansong. I am fortunate to have entered the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. I offer my deepest gratitude for the grace of being saved.

A Father's Plea to His Son

I hope that my son, Gu Zhongliang, will reach out to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. My grandmother, my uncle, and I have all been saved by Practitioner Su and have reached the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is because Practitioner Su and Zhongliang shared a connection as teacher and student in a past life. It is for this reason that I, your father, have been saved in this lifetime. Zhongliang, you should express your gratitude for the kindness of Practitioner Su. I hope that you, my son, will understand the heartfelt wish of your father.
