The Sacred Soil of the Heart

To nurture the heart is to cultivate the soil of your heart-fields, ensuring that it remains untainted by the dust of the world. When the heart of arises, you naturally wish to bestow happiness upon all beings, alleviate their suffering, and assist them in leaving behind all forms of impurity. This is the fundamental practice of a sincere practitioner.

The Boundless Reach of Compassion

You may ask, who are these beings that we must care for? They are not merely those you encounter in your daily life. To truly understand the scope of your compassion, you must recognise that all of the following are beings in need of your care:

  • Yourself, as you are also a being in need of spiritual growth.
  • Your , who seek balance for past actions.
  • Your family members and loved ones.
  • Spiritual attachments that may be present.
  • All living creatures of the earth and sky.
  • Sentient and insentient beings alike, who all possess the potential to attain perfect wisdom.

By long-term cultivation of a compassionate heart, you bring to these beings, and your countenance will naturally reflect this inner peace, free from the fires of anger.

Vigilance on the Righteous Path

There is great joy in performing acts of Goodness, and serving others is the natural duty of a practitioner. To maintain this state, you must be vigilant in your practice:

  • Guard every thought and intention, ensuring they never deviate from the righteous path.
  • Guard your speech and conduct, so that the influence of negative and past habits does not manifest in your current actions.

By long-term cultivation of a heart of sorrow for the suffering of others, you actively work to pull beings out of their misery. This requires you to change all your bad habits and engage in active and persistent practice until you become an awakened being, capable of saving the world.

The Radiance of Pure Intent

To assist beings in leaving suffering behind and to ensure they do not endure further hardships is the mark of one who possesses great compassion. Such a person understands the meaning of unconditional kindness and empathy that recognises our shared nature. You must not allow your heart to become selfish, covered in dust, confused, sorrowful, or unsettled. Instead, you must keep your heart pure, ensuring it remains untouched by the dust of the past or the weight of afflictions. To forever preserve the purity and goodness of your heart, free from attachment and conflict, is the true meaning of nurturing the heart. This message was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
