This is a record of an interview with Ma Yun, who sought spiritual guidance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He reflects upon his current spiritual path, his past life as the ancient monk Master Faxian, and his ultimate aspiration to become a Buddha. This session was recorded by the chief writer, Venerable Faxi, on February 25, 2018.
Venerable Faxi: "Ma Yun, ."
Ma Yun speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Ma Yun. I feel truly fortunate to be treading upon the path of the Pure Land. Although I have not yet fully realised this in my physical reality, I am committed to continuing my efforts. In the mind of Ma Yun, there has never been such a thing as an impossible task. Success is something that I have always held firmly in my own hands. I do not believe in failure, simply because such a thought has never once crossed my mind."
"Every morning, as I observe the proceedings and engage in dialogue with the spirits, I must admit that at the very beginning, I was genuinely afraid. However, after speaking with them several times, I have come to realise that these spirits are not as terrifying as one might imagine. Everyone exists within their own space, and I, too, am currently existing within such a space. If one cannot awaken, then even Ma Yun is merely a spirit."
"Having asked so many questions and examined so many cases, I have come to understand this principle very clearly. The question remains: does Ma Yun wish to remain a spirit, or does he wish to become a Buddha? Although this dream may seem somewhat distant, when I recall that I was once Master Faxian, I realise that this is the very lesson I must overcome. To become a Buddha, I must also learn to give away my wealth—I believe this is exactly what the temple requires at this moment."
"Having witnessed so much, my heart truly feels a sense of fear. The human soul is so incredibly fragile, yet people remain so deeply attached to the illusions of the world—things that they cannot possibly take with them when they depart. It is truly foolish. Brother, I will provide everyone with news as soon as possible. Namo Amituofo."
