The Burden of Greatness and the Path to Clarity
An Interview with Ma Yun
Recorded on February 27, 2018
This is a record of an interview with Ma Yun, who sought spiritual deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. This account reflects upon his spiritual journey and his profound realisation regarding the impermanence of worldly success and the weight of karmic debt. It was recorded by the chief writer, Venerable Fa Xi, on February 27, 2018.
Ma Yun speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. Venerable Fa Xi, Namo Amituofo.
The Inevitability of Suffering for the Powerful
Venerable, you are truly extraordinary. Your insights strike directly at the core of our existence. Every single night, you have guided us to travel to various realms to investigate the truth. Seeing the final outcomes of so many prominent figures—those high-ranking officials and wealthy aristocrats—has been a sobering experience. Their ends were often far from peaceful. You allowed us to witness this so that we might finally wake up from our delusions. In truth, I have long known that I was not living a happy life. Despite all my wealth and influence, I could not escape the onset of illness. Even in my professional life, where I have given my absolute all, I often failed to realise that I was accumulating karmic debt along the way.
You have shown me these truths, and in doing so, you have given me the precious opportunity to truly live again. It is a terrifying reality that the life path of every 'big figure' eventually leads toward the path of sickness and suffering. It was only through your guidance, Venerable, that I was able to halt that downward trajectory in time. My physical health has genuinely improved, but I know that I still require much more clarity of heart and mind.
A Wake-up Call from the
I have already looked into the information available online regarding your work. However, it is not yet clear enough for me to fully grasp the depth of what you are doing. At most, I understand that this is a group dedicated to the practice of the Buddha Dharma—a place that is truly dignified and filled with a sense of cool, . I know that Australia is a land that I would come to love. I am fully aware that every single day, you are exhausting every possible method to help me. My heart is sincere, but the only thing missing now is the 'clarity'—the ability to wake up and remain awake, to remember the truth of the path.
The Path to Clarity and Support
I will certainly support all of you. The current gap lies in needing to clearly understand the direction forward, and specifically, in understanding the urgent need for the construction of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. These are details that one simply cannot see on the internet. Having looked at the online reports, I currently only possess a deep respect for this group as a place of genuine, cool, and pure practice. I will ensure that I keep myself in a state of purification. I dare not let my mind wander into other thoughts right now. I will make the necessary changes as quickly as possible, and I will schedule a time to meet with all of you. Venerable, I will certainly meet with you. Namo Amituofo."
