This is a record of an interview with Ma Yun, who sought spiritual guidance and deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He shares his profound reflections on his life, the nature of success, and his path toward spiritual clarity under the guidance of the Centre. This session was recorded by the chief writer, Venerable Shi Faxi, on February 27, 2018.
Ma Yun speaks:
". Venerable, you are truly extraordinary. You have pierced right through the defences I have built around my life, hitting the nail on the head with such precision that I am left in awe. Every night, you have taken us to visit so many different places, showing us the reality of existence and the ultimate fates of many prominent figures—people of great wealth and high status. Seeing their ends was a sobering experience. It forced me to wake up and confront the truth of my own life.
To be honest, I have long known that I was not truly happy. Despite all the success, I have been plagued by illness. I have come to realise that no amount of money can shield a person from the inevitable consequences of their actions. In my professional life, I have always given my absolute best, pouring my heart and soul into my work. Yet, I did not realise that in the process, I was unknowingly creating so much negative . Venerable, by allowing me to see these things through the , you have given me a chance to truly live again. I was on a path of decline, consumed by the pressures of my position, but because of your guidance, I have been able to stop that downward spiral in time. My physical health has already begun to improve, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
However, I know that I still need to reach a deeper level of clarity. I have read the information available online about the Centre, but it is not yet enough for me to fully grasp the depth of what is happening here. I know that this is a group dedicated to the practice of the Buddha-—a place that is incredibly dignified and filled with a sense of cool, . I have always felt a natural affinity for Australia, and I know that you, Venerable, have been using every possible method to help me. My heart is sincere, but I am currently missing that final spark of —the ability to remember and hold onto this clarity even after I wake up.
I want you to know that I am fully committed to supporting everyone here. The only thing missing now is a clear, unwavering sense of direction. I am beginning to understand the necessity of building the temple here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. These are things that cannot be seen or understood through online news alone. Having looked at what is available, I have developed a profound respect for this community and the pure, cooling practice you maintain. I will ensure that I keep myself in a state of purification. I dare not let my mind wander into other distractions anymore. I am determined to change, and I am currently arranging my schedule so that I can meet with you all in person. Venerable, I will certainly meet with you. Namo Amituofo."
