The Awakening of Faxian: Beyond the Illusion of Ma Yun

This interview was recorded on February 23, 2018, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. It features the spirit of the historical monk Faxian, who, having sought deliverance through the compassionate guidance of the centre, reflects on his past life and his current journey of purification and spiritual awakening.

Faxian speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Faxian. This is truly monumental news, a revelation of the highest order that I never expected to encounter in this state of existence.

Throughout my entire life, I never once entertained such thoughts. I only ever fantasised about being a martial arts master. I was obsessed with watching martial arts films, obsessively dissecting every movement and technique. I had no idea that I shared such a profound connection with Namo Amituofo. Through these recent sessions of purification, the help I have received from my fellow practitioner has been transformative. I truly feel a sense of coolness and clarity in my heart. I never realised how incredibly comfortable it feels to be free from the heavy, suffocating weight of worldly attachments.

The Burden of a Complex Nature

My life was severely polluted, and my character had become incredibly complex and tangled. Now, through the daily process of subjugation and purification, I can feel distinct changes taking place within me. If my physical form can successfully awaken and resonate with my spiritual essence, then I will be able to do so much more for the Buddha’s teachings.

In the past, I was able to travel to the Western Regions to seek scriptures. In this lifetime, I am certain that I have the opportunity to turn back and study the Dharma. I have confidence in this path, and I have absolute confidence in my fellow practitioner. I have never properly thanked Venerable Changren, who has been by my side, constantly assisting me throughout this process. Thank you for your unwavering support. I am Faxian, not Ma Yun. I am determined to dedicate myself to a new endeavour for the sake of the Buddha’s teachings. Namo Amituofo!"
