The Deliverance of Lay Practitioner Wang Daguo

This is a record of an interview with Wang Daguo, the fifth uncle of Lay Practitioner Wang Chunming. He sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia and now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his life and his transition to the Western Pure Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on February 16, 2024.

Wang Daguo speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I have never been a person who is particularly skilled with words, but I must express my deepest gratitude to the Buddha, to Practitioner Su, and to every single person who chanted Namo Amituofo for me at the time of my passing. It is through your collective compassion that I have found my way home.

The Illusion of the Physical Shell

Now that I have arrived in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I finally understand the truth: the body I inhabited as Wang Daguo was merely an outer shell. This shell carried me through so many life experiences—moments of joy, depths of suffering, and waves of sorrow. If only I had been given the chance to know the Dharma earlier, I would not have had to endure so much unnecessary pain. The changes this body underwent caused me such profound agony; my body was in pain, and my heart was even more so. Yet, even in the midst of that suffering, I had no choice but to accept it. I had to endure, day after agonizing day. I often thought about wanting to leave this world quickly, but deep down, I was terrified of what lay beyond. That torment haunted me for a long time. Even after I passed away, my heart remained buried in darkness. But thank goodness, all of that suffering has finally come to an end.

A Moment of Golden Light

Today, I witnessed such a magnificent, brilliant golden light. I saw the Buddha, and the scene before my eyes was so overwhelming that I could not help but burst into tears. These were not just tears of being moved; they were tears shed for the suffering of being reincarnated throughout my many lives. But at last, I have attained liberation. I knelt before the Buddha, bowing my head in deep reverence, my heart filled with such immense gratitude that words cannot fully capture it.

The Weight of Karmic Retribution

In that moment, I realized that everything in my past was simply me paying the price for the laws of karma and cause and effect that I had created myself. I saw my karmic creditors, and I saw the terrible state they were in because of the harm I had caused them in the past. From the very depths of my heart, I offered them my sincere repenting. Now, I understand clearly that one should never be too calculating about the affairs of this world, and one should certainly never complain about one's circumstances.

A Message to My Family

I have successfully achieved rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, and I truly hope that my family can be happy for me. I am especially grateful to Chunming for helping me receive this deliverance. You are such a kind and good child. Serving the Buddha in this way is a truly meaningful endeavor.

Seeing so many of our relatives successfully achieve rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is all due to your merit and hard work. Since you have such wonderful Causal Conditions in this life, you must continue to expand your heart and resolve, so that you may help even more beings find their way to liberation.

I am deeply grateful for all the good causes and conditions that brought me here.
