The Deliverance of Lay Practitioner Wang Jinde

This is a record of an interview with Lay Practitioner Wang Jinde, who sought deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his transition from the cycle of reincarnated life to the Pure Land. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on September 7, 2024.

Lay Practitioner Wang Jinde speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Wang Jinde, and I am currently sitting upon a lotus seat in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. It is a lotus flower that is crystal clear and translucent.

Ever since I took my place upon this lotus, I have been constantly surrounded by its exquisite fragrance. Looking out from within this lotus, my perspective has shifted entirely; my way of seeing the world is completely different from before. Only now do I realise the true magnificence of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.

A Change of Heart

In the past, I knew nothing of the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. If someone had asked me to come here back then, I would have certainly felt a sense of rejection in my heart. Now, I finally understand that this is the Buddha-land. So many people yearn to come here, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have already arrived.

I am deeply grateful to my granddaughter. It was because she came to know the Dharma, and placed her faith in the Buddha, that I, too, was able to encounter the Buddha. Now that I have arrived in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I realise that I have been waiting for this Causal Condition for such a long time. I have been trapped in the cycle of reincarnated life for aeons, and only now have I finally reached this destination. After seeing and understanding all of this, my heart is filled with profound emotion. I am filled with gratitude for the Buddha and for the Causal Conditions that have brought me here.

The Suffering of the Physical Form

I recall how, in the past, I dragged my aging body through life. There were so many times when I had to endure the torment brought on by physical decline, as well as the mental anguish of being unable to let go of this body.

As my body grew old, I knew deep down that I should prepare for the day I would eventually depart. Yet, my heart was always tangled in knots, filled with fear—I was terrified of that day actually arriving.

The Truth of Human Suffering

However, no one can escape the arrival of that day. The panic and unease I felt before death—the memory of that state still lingers even now. Thinking back on it, I realise that all of those experiences were simply the inherent sufferings of human life.

During this time of listening to the sutras, I have come to understand that I was being dragged along by the laws of karma and cause and effect. Only after I made the decision to let go did my heart finally open. It was then that I truly understood how vital it is to follow the Buddha.

Now that I have arrived in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss, I feel a sense of complete peace. I am grateful to the Buddha and to Practitioner Su. Without the guidance of Practitioner Su, I would never have been able to ascend to the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.

My entire being feels incredibly cool and refreshed, and I keep the Buddha-name constantly on my lips.
