The Demon King Within the Eyes of Practitioner Su

This is a record of an interview with the Demon King Mo Zi-lai, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Dharma Nature. This account reflects upon his experiences in the year 2022. Recorded by the chief writer, Venerable HaiZe, on April 26, 2022.

Demon King Mo Zi-lai speaks:

"I am Mo Zi-lai. I am a demon being from outside this universe. By Earth's reckoning, I have existed in the Demon Realm for approximately twelve thousand years. Recently, when Practitioner Su was performing Chao Du during a Dharma assembly, he appeared in the skies of the universe. We happened to see the brilliant ray of light that Practitioner Su brought with him, flashing across the horizon. That light had appeared here many times before, but because it moved with such incredible speed, it would always vanish into the vastness beyond the universe. This time, we finally caught it.

The Pursuit of the Light

At that moment, I and my demon children and grandchildren were guarding the space outside our own planet. We saw that incredibly powerful light, accompanied by a multitude of flying beings following in its wake. We were all very excited. At my command, we immediately donned our formal demon attire to show our respect for this light. We prepared to follow it, determined to see where it came from and how it possessed the ability to reach such a distant corner of the universe.

To our surprise, after following it, we arrived at Earth. In the vastness of the stars, this is but a tiny planet; many interstellar beings do not even know of its existence. As an interstellar Demon King, I must have an understanding of the planets in the starry sky, which is why I knew of Earth. From ancient times to the present, there have been a few humans on this planet who have earned the deep admiration of the demon crowds. The most recent one was Shakyamuni Buddha, who lived two or three thousand years ago. His Dharma Body once visited this interstellar region, and we listened to his teachings, deeply impressed by the profundity of the Buddha’s teachings. The clarity with which Shakyamuni Buddha spoke of the truths of the starry sky and the universe left us interstellar demons in awe. Now, to see such light coming from Earth again, we could no longer underestimate this tiny planet. It seems this is a high-quality planet, capable of nurturing humans with such high energy and profound skills.

Infiltrating the Eyes of Practitioner Su

When we learned that the human who emitted this light was called Practitioner Su, many of the demon crowds exclaimed in surprise. We had recently heard rumors in the Demon Realm about an emerging figure on Earth named Practitioner Su who could subdue demon crowds. We never expected to encounter him so soon. He was truly as legendary as they said, and he had certainly caught the attention of me, the Demon King Mo Zi-lai. Since we had such a special Causal Condition to visit Earth, we could not return empty-handed. We decided to enter the deep, clear eyes of Practitioner Su to see the world within them. It is rumored that Practitioner Su is protected by a Vajra shield, something I had never encountered before, so I took this opportunity to experience it. Using our invisibility arts, we successfully bypassed the surveillance of the Dharma protectors. We gathered our strength and, at lightning speed, charged into Practitioner Su's eyes. Just before we touched the surface of his eyeballs, we were repelled by a massive force. I and many of my demon children and grandchildren could not help but laugh—it truly possessed a powerful elasticity.

However, our desire to explore the eyes of Practitioner Su did not diminish; instead, we were even more determined to break through and try again. At that moment, we saw some Earth-bound demons following air molecules into Practitioner Su's eyes. We realized that this was the only way to enter, so we followed suit and successfully made our way inside.

The World Within the Eyes

Our invisibility arts are formless and colorless. Once we achieved our goal, we let our invisibility cloaks fade and revealed our true forms. Among the demon crowds of the universe, our formal demon attire is a unique white, but the light we emit is not white light—it is a dark, demonic light. This is the unique quality of our 'demonic white.' Naturally, as I and my demon children and grandchildren stood inside, wearing our demonic white, it caused the eyes of Practitioner Su to appear hazy and white. Inside, however, was another bright world. Generally, when a space has such layers and appears so bright, it belongs to a high-level spiritual space; low-level spiritual spaces could never manifest such a thing. Thus, we realized once again that the fast, bright light Practitioner Su emits does not just come from his eyes; it can radiate from any part of his body. Only with such ability could he illuminate the sky. We had gained our answer. It turns out that Earth humans can reach such a realm through practice; we must not underestimate this planet!

Deliverance to the Western Land

Since we had gone to such trouble to get in, why not stay for a few more days? We stayed inside for about six days by human time. This calculation was not based on the cycle of day and night within the eyes, for the space within Practitioner Su's eyes remained constantly bright, without the darkness of night. We knew six days had passed by observing the changes of day and night in the sky outside his eyes. Just today, after we had been listening to the dialogue between Practitioner Su and the beings (the Teachers) as usual, Practitioner Su requested that a memorial tablet be written for the hazy white eyes, and he specifically wrote down the name of the Demon King, Mo Zi-lai. I was astonished—how could he have the ability to know my name from the interstellar Demon Realm? Could it be that Practitioner Su had known all along that we were lurking in his eyes for those days? While I was still pondering this, I was commanded by Practitioner Su to enter the golden light ahead, and thus I arrived here. In less than half a day, we have come to understand that this place is called the Western Land of Dharma Nature. It, too, possesses an inexhaustible supply of light and energy, which is highly welcomed by beings from our Demon Realm and beyond the stars. At the same time, it can elevate the spiritual quality of those who provide it.

Looking at Earth now, the place whose energy corresponds to the quality of our planet is the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Therefore, we are very happy to stay here, receiving the illumination of the Buddha-light to increase the brightness and energy within us. Let us stop here for now!

The Buddha has given Mo Zi-lai the Dharma name 'Shi Xing-hai.'
