The Demon Who Attacked Practitioner Su: An Interview with Mo Xuan

This is a record of an interview with the demon Mo Xuan, who sought Chao Du at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Dharma-Nature Land. This account reflects upon his attempts to influence human consciousness and his eventual transformation. Recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on January 25, 2023.

Mo Xuan speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Mo Xuan. Humans were not the first beings to appear on Earth, but will they be the ones to ultimately destroy it? Most certainly.

I say the word 'certainly' with absolute conviction because I see it so clearly. It is humans who are destroying the Earth with their own hands. All other sentient beings are harmed by humans, and in the end, everything is heading toward decay and ruin.

I do not say these things to make humans feel afraid. I say them so that humans may realise that their existence has a profound impact on this planet. If humans desire evil, the Earth's lifespan will surely be short. If they desire Goodness and seek to do well, perhaps the Earth still has a long life ahead. However, as long as we demon crowds are here, it will not be easy for the Earth to survive for much longer.

The Art of Spreading Evil

My primary task every day is to spread evil thought—or, more accurately, to control The Head of a human, causing it to generate evil thought. It sounds like nothing, doesn't it? And indeed, it is nothing, because many of us demons are doing exactly this. I believe that by now, you have heard plenty about this in this place.

Before I arrived here, I truly did not believe that any human could subdue us. Logically, it should be impossible for humans to discover our existence. Even if they knew we were there, they would not have the ability to capture us. We are extremely intelligent, and we are masters of concealment. Therefore, it was impossible for humans to catch us. This was my belief before coming here, and it was not just me; most of the demon crowds thought the same. We were incredibly confident in ourselves, and we took great pride in it.

Targeting the Discontented

On this Earth, there are actually many people with kind hearts. The vast majority of people are not inherently evil or malicious. However, there is still a sliver of evil in their hearts. Even if that evil is only a tiny bit, it can have a massive effect on the Earth.

We are currently searching everywhere for targets to control. We have turned the entire Earth upside down looking for them, not missing a single one. The targets we look for are those who are prone to 'muttering' in their hearts. This might be hard to understand, but simply put, it refers to people who have their own internal negative voices—people who find it easy to look at others or at events and see only the bad. These are the people our group of demons primarily targets.

The Rain and the Mind

Why do we look for such people? Let me give you an example. Suppose the sky is clear and beautiful, and suddenly, in an instant, it begins to pour with rain. Everyone is caught off guard. Clothes are not brought in, quilts drying in the courtyard are still out, and children playing outside cannot run home in time to hide from the rain. Everyone gets soaked. At this moment, everyone's reaction is different. A small number of people will 'look at the bright side' of this rain. Perhaps they think this sudden downpour will bring good luck for the year, or that everyone touched by the rain will prosper, ensuring wealth and full pockets for the year ahead.

These people, who look at things positively from the bottom of their hearts, are not the targets we demons seek. They are not in sync with us; we demons could never look at a situation so optimistically. The targets we seek are those who, upon encountering this rain, immediately feel stifled and filled with negative thoughts. Perhaps someone gets angry, thinking the rain has ruined everything; someone else feels frustrated because their planned itinerary has been disrupted. Some people see nothing but bad in this rain, believing it is an ominous sign—because it is heavy and fierce, they assume some disaster is about to arrive.

The Cycle of Negative Influence

I am only giving a general example. In the same situation, everyone's perspective and thoughts are different. This is human habit—a habitual mode of thinking. When encountering different situations or events, they always use the same habitual mode of thinking to respond. The group of demons I belong to primarily seeks out those who are completely unable to think positively. They are our first choice. Controlling them is extremely easy, and we can strengthen their negative thoughts, then let them influence the people around them, making everyone share the same mindset. This negative power can greatly influence the entire Earth and shift the Earth's magnetic field.

We have already successfully plunged a large group of humans into depression and manic-depression. Because they are accustomed to negative thoughts, they attract us. It is not just us; all corresponding spirits have arrived, including the karmic creditors within their own bodies. They gather all this negative power and attack these negative-minded people together. The parts they attack are The Head and the heart, making them see only the bad and think only the bad, living every day in a dark, stifling space from which they cannot escape.

The Futility of Human Medicine

Do not underestimate this group of people. Their numbers are growing larger and larger, and their influence on the Earth is significant. Once they become depressed, they can completely influence those around them, making them feel depressed and sad as well, feeling that the future has no hope. Many people start seeing doctors and taking medication because of this. This is the way of the human world, and they believe that if one is sick, one should see a doctor. That is certainly correct; humans must find ways to save themselves. Since humans have invented medicine, they should naturally use medical methods to save these people. However, we demons are not afraid of human medicine at all. As long as we change our methods slightly, we can resist the influence of these drugs on us and continue to control humans, perhaps even more intensely than before.

This operation to control humans is still ongoing. We are capturing them one by one, not giving humans a chance to breathe. Whoever can be controlled by us, we control. We want to let dark clouds completely shroud the Earth. Does that sound absolutely terrifying?

The Golden Light of Practitioner Su

Just as these dark clouds had already covered more than half of the Earth, a massive beam of golden light suddenly appeared, beginning to drive the dark clouds away. Where did this golden light come from? We were all puzzled. We searched rapidly and found that it was this human still living in the world, the one called 'Practitioner Su' in the spiritual realms.

Practitioner Su brought golden light and used the Buddha-name to perform Chao Du for the Earth. He opened up the space of the Earth and saved a vast number of spirits, slowly changing the magnetic field of the entire Earth bit by bit. Such actions were enough to make the clouds retreat, which made us extremely furious.

We were naturally unwilling to accept this, so we came to find Practitioner Su to ask what he meant by interfering with us. As soon as we found the physical body of Practitioner Su, we immediately attacked The Head of Practitioner Su, intending to force him to surrender.

We thought that with such a fierce onslaught, we could make Practitioner Su fear us. Unexpectedly, this Practitioner Su had a ferocity even greater than ours. Without a moment's hesitation, he captured all of us, struck that black object with a loud sound, and sucked us all away."

The Buddha gave Mo Xuan the Dharma name 'Shi Di'an'.

Reflections on the Thrice Yearning Ceremonies

Shi Di'an (Mo Xuan) speaks:

"After being sucked into this place called the 'Western Dharma-Nature Land', we were all watching, trying to see what this place actually was.

Looking at the surrounding environment, there is not a trace of 'evil'. This is absolutely not a place where we demons should appear. We did not understand why Practitioner Su brought us here. We were all chained up. We were originally trying to find a way to break free, but a demon beside us told us: 'Don't waste your energy. If we could have escaped, we would have done so long ago. How could we still be sitting here like fools?' I looked at him and was shocked. Why are there so many demons here? They are all sitting obediently on lotus flowers. They are nothing like the demons in our Demon Realm. Could it be that this place is specifically designed to subdue us demons?

We continued to sit and watch everything happening here. From here, we can also see the entire Earth. When we calmed our hearts to look, we discovered that the Earth has changed tremendously. From the moment the Earth was formed until now, the thing that has been constantly influencing it is indeed the human 'heart'. Before humans appeared on Earth, the colour of the entire Earth was pale. Gradually, as humans began to appear, the colour of the Earth became deeper and deeper. Especially in this current century, the human heart has changed drastically. There are all kinds of evil thoughts, which have made the colour of the Earth so deep it is nearly black.

However, Practitioner Su has now begun to perform Chao Du on a large scale, saving many spirits in the various spaces, and he is constantly changing the human heart, helping the colour of the Earth turn from deep to pale. This means the magnetic field of the Earth will become better and better.

We greatly admire Practitioner Su. Seeing Practitioner Su use his Dharma Body to save so many sentient beings—this is an ability we do not possess. I believe that with the help of Practitioner Su, the Earth will be transformed in a positive direction.
