This is a record of an interview with Jeffrey Koo Jr., who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He reflects upon the nature of greed, the state of modern religious practice, and the urgent need for a true education of the heart to guide humanity back to the right path. This interview was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on February 26, 2018.

Jeffrey Koo Jr. speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. When fame and profit manifest before us, it is not easy for everyone to maintain their composure and integrity. Often, just a slight deviation from the path of righteousness is enough to send one walking into the shadows. We tell ourselves it is only a small mistake, but each time we forgive ourselves for these lapses, we are actually sliding deeper into a valley from which it becomes impossible to return.

The Root of Human Suffering

To put it plainly, the root cause is that the 'greed' within us has not been severed. Even for those who have become monastics, it is difficult to cut this attachment off completely. Because of this, the Buddha’s teachings have, in many places, evolved into a mere ritual of worship or a transactional act of donating incense money in exchange for peace and safety. In reality, this does not change one's destiny at all. Destiny, to speak clearly, originates from the human heart.

The Crisis of Moral Education

Today, it seems there is no longer a true education of the heart. This leaves us to wonder: what are we humans to do? The boundary between right and wrong, between the righteous and the evil, seems to have become blurred; people simply do not understand it clearly anymore. While religions generally teach people to be good, their reach is ultimately limited. Most people treat religion merely as a form of psychological comfort or a temporary solace.

A Commitment to the Future

A true education of the heart is what I, Jeffrey Koo Jr., now consider to be of the utmost importance. Once all conditions are harmonised and the path is clear, I am fully committed to supporting this mission with all my strength. We must join the ranks of saviors to help others find their way back to their original nature. Namo Amituofo."
