The Energy of Thoughts and the Energy of the Buddha-Name
Teachings from Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva

The Velocity and Persistence of Thought
On the fourteenth of January, 2019, Mahasthamaprapta offered a teaching to all beings regarding the energy of our thoughts and the incomparable energy of the Buddha-name. When we speak of the distance between two points, in the realm of the mind, it is not a matter of physical space. A distance of thousands of miles can be traversed in less than an instant. Whether we say a moment or the blink of an eye, these are merely words; in truth, the speed of thought is beyond our physical comprehension. This is the remarkable velocity of the mind.
Because of this, every thought you conceive—every fleeting idea or deep-seated reflection—travels like an electrical wave. Within the shortest possible time, these thoughts permeate every corner of your body and radiate out into the surrounding space. No matter how great the distance, this thought-energy can be received. You must realise that these thoughts do not simply vanish. Whether a year, a decade, a century, or even a millennium has passed, the energy of that thought remains. It persists in the universe, never disappearing unless it is neutralised by another form of energy.
The Karmic Ledger of the Mind
If the energy of a thought is rooted in Goodness, it will persist until you receive the corresponding good result. Only when that karmic fruit has been harvested and the energy consumed will it finally dissipate from the space of the universe. Conversely, if a thought is rooted in evil, it will remain until you have endured the corresponding . Only then, once the energy has been fully exhausted, will it vanish. This is the reason for the Buddhist teaching that even after hundreds of thousands of eons, the created by one's actions does not simply disappear.
Few people understand this profound mystery. If everyone truly grasped the terrifying nature of their own thoughts, they would not dare to think so carelessly. A single train of thought is composed of countless individual mental notes, and when you understand the weight of these thoughts, you will see how frightening unchecked thinking can be. These thoughts are an integral part of your personal ego and habits; therefore, you must strive to change your ways and cease these negative habits immediately. Even as beings pass through the six realms of rebirth and undergo transformation, their spirit remains eternal. Every action taken and every thought emitted is like a unique code embedded within that being. Only the individual who created that thought can neutralise its energy. Once a thought is emitted, it forms an energy that cannot be altered. Even sincere repenting only creates a new energy of repentance, which may weaken the original force but cannot erase it entirely. Only by making a vow, putting it into actual practice, and achieving the power of that vow can one transform the thought, convert the energy, and turn it into a force that aids in attaining Buddhahood.
The Supreme Energy of Namo Amituofo
Throughout the entire universe and across all galaxies, including alien systems and other forms of life, this truth remains absolute. Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva and all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas understand this principle clearly. This is why they practise chanting Namo Amituofo with such diligence, never daring to be lax. They ensure that their thoughts are never evil, but only good, and they maintain a continuous stream of the Buddha-name. The Buddhas, the sutras, and Practitioner Su all emphasise the importance of growing and achieving the fruit of , ensuring that not even a single messy thought enters the mind.
The Buddha-name is pure, perfectly good, and filled with infinite energy. Even a single utterance of the name possesses this quality; this is the preciousness of the Buddha-name. The infinite energy contained within this one name will not disappear. Unless it is used or neutralised, it will follow you forever. This is why the energy within each person is unique. Even if you are reincarnated or transformed, this pure and good energy of the Buddha-name will remain with you. Good energy leads to good results, and evil energy leads to evil results; there is never a mistake in this cosmic law. It will never follow the wrong person. Unless one attains Buddhahood—where all Buddhas walk the same path—there will never be two identical energy signatures. The karma of every being in the six realms of rebirth is composed of these different thought energies, which also include the and merits one has accumulated. This is the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way, the mystery of the universe.
A Rare Opportunity for
Do not ever underestimate the name of Namo Amituofo. In the entire universe, this is the only name that contains pure, perfectly good, and authentic energy. Because Namo Amituofo is the most honoured among all lights and the King of Buddhas, only He has the power to bless this name, giving it such inconceivable energy—enough to save an entire planet on the verge of destruction. The Buddha-name is the king of mantras, surpassing any other. Because of the boundless of Namo Amituofo, all the merits of the Buddha and the power of His Forty-eight Great Vows are infused into this single name.
Chanting the Buddha's name is so magnificent and simple that people often disregard it, failing to see its true value. At present, only Practitioner Su has truly grasped the preciousness of the Buddha-name, utilising its energy for self-salvation and the salvation of all beings, while simultaneously attaining the true light of his self-nature. The authentic merit and energy of the Buddha-name can be transformed into the Buddha-light that radiates from one's body. This is why the light emitted by the ancestral masters and the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas possesses such an inconceivable power to influence and transform others.
You must cherish this Buddha-name. If you can chant with sincerity, earnestness, and a mind free from selfishness and distraction, you will receive unimaginable energy and merit. It is the most precious method for saving yourself and all suffering beings. Namo Amituofo and those who truly practise chanting are rare and precious treasures. Now that Namo Amituofo has come to the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre to help you chant, realise your true nature, and attain Buddhahood, you must practise diligently. Seize this opportunity, which is difficult to encounter in millions of years, and do not let a single moment pass in vain.
