Throughout history, individuals who possess , wisdom, and a calm, joyful spirit have always been welcomed wherever they go. Their presence radiates dignity and peace. Yet, despite the passage of countless centuries, the fundamental nature of our existence remains unchanged. The cycle of rebirth continues without pause, and the deep-seated anxieties, helplessness, worries, and dissatisfactions that plague the human heart persist. Even today, people continue to grapple with resentment, anger, ignorance, and the relentless impermanence of the world.

The Mirage of Worldly Fulfillment

Have you ever felt that, even when you possess everything you once desired, a strange and inexplicable sense of emptiness arises within you? You might ask yourself why this feeling persists when your worldly needs are met. Perhaps you have faced sudden, life-altering changes—the loss of a loved one, the collapse of a career, or the onset of a serious illness. In these moments, you may feel caught unprepared, your body and mind wounded in ways that seem impossible to heal. Even in the quiet, ordinary days of life, we witness the inevitable progression of birth, aging, sickness, and death. In the blink of an eye, a lifetime passes by.

Consider the different stages of your own life: your childhood and formative years of learning; the pursuit of a career and the building of a family; the later years, marked by the decline of physical strength and the onset of health challenges; and the final departure from this world. When you look back at the scenes of your life flashing through your mind, you must ask: what have you truly left behind? Everything you see before you—the wealth you have accumulated, the businesses you have built, or the legacies left by your ancestors—is subject to the laws of impermanence. When your physical strength fades, you wish to stop the process of aging. When you fall ill, you long to recover your former health. But when the time of death arrives, where will you go? Can you truly reach the place you desire? You may know of the beauty of the of Ultimate Bliss, but do you have the certainty of being reborn there?

The Treasure Hidden Within

These intangible anxieties have driven humanity to search for a method to find peace of mind for generations, yet most fail to find a satisfying answer. The truth is that the stability you seek is a priceless treasure. It cannot be found by looking outward at the world; it must be discovered within your own heart. This is the Buddha-treasure of your true self. It is inherently perfect, and it has never left you. It resides within your heart, containing everything you could ever need. However, if you have become accustomed to the demands of the external world, defining your worth through social status, professional success, or the approval of others, you will remain lost. If you continue to seek validation through external conditions, you will never be able to return to your true self or realise your original nature.

Alas, all these external things are subject to change. They are impermanent and illusory. You cannot take any of them with you when you depart, yet they bind your heart tightly. Your mind becomes stained with the and , and clouded by the seven emotions. This prevents the treasure of your true self—the only thing that can provide genuine peace and reliance—from shining forth. It remains buried deep within, covered by layers of dust and grime, hidden from the light of day.

The Obstacles on the Path

Even when people become aware of this inner treasure and wish to reclaim it, they often find themselves unable to enter the gate without the guidance of a true spiritual friend or a virtuous teacher. Without such guidance, one may walk many misguided paths, remaining stagnant or even creating negative . Whenever your thoughts, plans, or intentions are driven by personal gain or loss, you provide an opportunity for your to manifest. This distance from your true self causes your precious spirit to fall once again into the cycle of rebirth.

The Radiance of the Awakened Nature

Your true self is the unchanging Truth and the source of stability within your heart. Regardless of how the external environment changes, those who have realised their true nature possess a wealth that transcends the material world. Though they may appear to have nothing, they possess boundless compassion, wisdom, virtue, and auspicious characteristics. The world of an awakened being is one of permanence, , true self, and purity. It is a state of freedom, coolness, and infinite joy. Their light is immeasurable, their fragrance and radiance are endless, and their mind-capacity is boundless. They are selfless, without attachment, and free from anger, dwelling in a state of natural, peaceful joy.

Because they understand the suffering of all beings, they naturally manifest skillful means and various teachings to help others. Their ability to bring peace to sentient beings flows endlessly from their true self, perfectly harmonising with the needs of the world.

Returning Home to the Western Pure Land

Namo Amituofo is always waiting to lead us there, calling out to His children who have lost their way to return home.

Learning about the Buddha, having faith in the Buddha, and chanting Namo Amituofo is the fastest method to realise your true nature. It is the most vital source of energy for your heart. In the process of cleansing your mind of dust and impurities, you may encounter obstacles or the manifestation of karmic creditors. However, under the guidance and protection of Namo Amituofo and your true spiritual friends, and by relying on the firm power of your faith, you can break through these challenges.
