The Mirror of Equality

Every sentient being possesses the original nature, the Buddha-nature. This nature is inherently equal and pure, yet because of deep-seated confusion, we become lost in the illusions of this world. This confusion creates the various phenomena we perceive, leading us to make false distinctions between high and low, rich and poor, and wise and foolish. When we are caught in these discriminations, we lose sight of the fundamental truth that all beings are essentially the same.

Regardless of whom you encounter, you must treat them with humility and modesty. Whether you are facing those who are wealthy and talented, or those who are impoverished and seemingly foolish, remember that they are all trapped within the cycle of rebirth, waiting for the opportunity to be saved. You must offer respect to all beings, for in doing so, you are honouring the Buddha-nature that resides within them.

The Path of Humble Wisdom

To respect all beings is to respect your own true self. Humility is the hallmark of one who understands the nature of suffering and knows the value of contentment. When you are humble, you cease to create further negative and avoid the bitter consequences that follow. This is the path of a wise practitioner who is committed to the Buddha's path.

You must be fiercely diligent in your practice. It is only through the humble recognition of your own shortcomings that you can continue to move forward and make progress. This diligence is what enables you to rediscover your true self and eventually save infinite suffering beings.

the Buddha Within

Namo Amituofo embodies the dignity, purity, and equality of the awakened mind. This is the most profound and equal heart of the Buddha.
