Clarity is not merely an intellectual understanding; it is the state of the heart that has truly distanced itself from the darkness of ignorance. When we speak of clarity, we are referring to a profound illumination that clears away the shadows of our past attachments and misconceptions. It is the heart that has returned to its original, luminous state, free from the obscurations that keep us bound to the cycle of rebirth.
To walk the path of , one must cultivate clarity in four essential dimensions of existence:
When you achieve this clarity, you will realise that the six realms of existence are but illusions, and the ten directions are ultimately empty. This is not a nihilistic view, but a liberating one. By seeing your own true nature, you find the clarity that transcends the fleeting nature of worldly affairs. You begin to understand that while the world is defined by impermanence, there is a true, unchanging reality that lies beneath the surface of all things.
You may ask yourself: when is the right time to depart from the entanglements of worldly affairs? The answer lies in the clarity of the present moment. Understanding this one place—where you are right now—is superior to seeking in the ten directions. Why is this so? It is because Namo Amituofo is truly present here, in this very moment, and in this very place. You do not need to travel far to find the Buddha; you only need to clear the dust from your heart to perceive His presence.
Finally, true clarity reveals the paradox of attachment. You must come to understand that both the act of letting go and the act of holding on are, in the ultimate sense, empty concepts. When the heart is truly empty, it is not a void of nothingness; rather, it is a vast, open space that contains everything. In this state of perfect clarity, you are no longer burdened by the weight of your choices, for you have returned to the source of all things. Recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
