The Living Signboard of the Amitabha Village
An Interview with Jeffrey Koo Chung-hung
Recorded by Chief Writer Shi Faxin on August 14, 2018
This is a record of an interview with Jeffrey Koo Chung-hung, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He reflects on his life and the profound mission of the Village. This testimony was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Faxin, on August 14, 2018.
Jeffrey Koo Chung-hung speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. I am Jeffrey Koo Chung-hung. I have never wanted my life to simply pass by in vain. From a young age, I learned to govern and manage my own mind; precise numerical analysis has always been my professional strength. My brain has constantly been occupied with exploring the pulse of the markets. I was once self-satisfied, believing that I understood the affairs of the world, yet I did not realise that these worldly affairs were, in truth, all matters of defilement."
The Silent Cry of the Spirit
"I was so polluted that I could no longer hear the cries of my own spirit. My soul, which longed to be free from the shackles of worldly concerns, wanted to save itself and also wished to do its part to help others. Every day, the guidance provided by Practitioner Su serves as a form of self-guidance for my own body and mind. Now that Practitioner Su has mentioned the establishment of the Amitabha Village, I hope that we can all do our utmost to support it.
If President Xi were to purchase a unit, and Premier Li were to purchase another—not to mention myself, Jeffrey Koo, purchasing one—the Amitabha Village would have the presence of influential figures. Serving as a 'living signboard' for this project is the most effective way to establish credibility. In this way, even the Australian government would begin to transform traditional nursing homes into Amitabha Villages. When people from all over the world flock to this place, everyone will be able to truly gain a deep understanding of the magnificent, meritorious power of the Buddha’s teachings."
A Village Beyond Life and Death
"This matter of ending the cycle of birth and death will surely draw a massive influx of people. The first person to initiate this movement is of critical importance. For every degree of clarity I achieve, I can contribute that much more to the flourishing of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. The Amitabha Village in the void is not yet fully manifest; while waiting for its completion, I will imprint the images of the temple and the Amitabha Village into my own mind. That way, when the day comes that I see them—whether through the internet or any other means—I will have the distinct impression that I have already been there.
To reside in a village that is beyond death is a wonderful prospect that most people have never even dared to imagine. I am honoured to be part of this mission to save the world, participating in the daily Chao Du. It is through this process of sharing in the salvation of the world that I am finally finding my true self again. Namo Amituofo."
