The Path of Awakening: From Business Titan to Dharma Practitioner

This interview was recorded on February 23, 2018, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. It features the spirit of the world-renowned entrepreneur Ma Yun, who, through the guidance of the centre, has come to realise his true identity as the historical figure Fa Xian. Seeking deliverance from the burdens of his worldly life, he shares his profound realisation and his renewed commitment to the Buddha’s teachings.

Ma Yun (Fa Xian) speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I am Fa Xian. This is truly monumental news—a revelation of the highest order.

In my entire life, I never once entertained such thoughts. I only ever fantasised about being a martial arts master; I had a deep passion for watching martial arts films and dissecting their choreography. I had no idea that I shared a profound connection with Namo Amituofo. Through these recent sessions of purification, and with the invaluable help provided by my fellow practitioner, I truly feel a sense of coolness and clarity in my heart. I never realised how incredibly comfortable it feels to be free from the heavy, suffocating weight of worldly attachments.

The Process of Purification

My life was severely polluted, and my character had become quite complex and tangled. Now, as I undergo this daily process of subduing my ego and purifying my spirit, I can feel distinct changes taking place within me. If my physical body can successfully awaken and resonate with my true spirit, then I will be able to do so much more for the Buddha’s teachings.

A Vow to Serve the Dharma

In a past life, I was able to travel to the Western Regions to seek scriptures. In this lifetime, I am certain that I have the opportunity to turn back and study the Dharma. I have confidence in this path, and I have absolute confidence in my fellow practitioner. I have never properly thanked Venerable Chang Ren, who has been helping me from within all this time. Thank you for your unwavering assistance. I am Fa Xian, not Ma Yun. I intend to dedicate myself to a new endeavour—one that serves the Buddha’s teachings. Namo Amituofo!"
