Rectifying Body and Mind
During the second session of the , Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju offered profound guidance on the transformative power of simplicity. We are encouraged to find the benefits of simplicity, purity, and goodness within our daily lives. When we embrace these qualities, we find that our entire being begins to transform:
Consider a child raised in an environment of simplicity, purity, and goodness. Such a child does not develop a complex or convoluted mind. Their character and behaviour remain simple, pure, and untainted by the world. Because they are nurtured in an environment that provides only messages of goodness and wholesome education, they naturally sprout thoughts and intentions that are rooted in purity.
Because they have not yet touched or been exposed to the turbid and evil thoughts of the world, they radiate an aura of simplicity, purity, and goodness. This is the natural state of our original nature before it is clouded by the dust of the world.
When this state of simplicity, purity, and goodness becomes a natural way of being, the Six Roots will begin to function with their original, innate power. As we continue to refine ourselves, we move closer to a state of pure goodness. This is the moment of , the time when one truly sees their original face.
Once this state is reached, our interactions with the world change entirely:
For those of us who have lived long in a world of complexity and pollution, the journey back to simplicity, purity, and goodness requires a dedicated process. We must commit ourselves to the work of removing impurities and attaining purity. This is the essential task of our practice.
Through this diligent process, we gradually cleanse our minds until not even a single trace of pollution remains. When we have purified ourselves to the point where there is not even a tiny bit of impurity left, that is the moment of Awakening. We must continue to practise with sincerity, keeping our focus on the , and always remember to chant all the way.
