The Rebirth of He Fulian in the Western Pure Land

This interview was recorded on July 14, 2023, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. It features the spirit of the late Lay Practitioner He Fulian, the great-aunt of Lay Practitioner He Huiping. After passing away, He Fulian sought deliverance and was guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss through the compassionate Chao Du performed by Practitioner Su.

Lay Practitioner He Fulian speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. I have arrived in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Before my eyes, everything is filled with a brilliant, radiant light. Looking at this, my heart is deeply moved. I spent my entire life working hard just to get by, yet I never imagined that this very moment—the moment of my rebirth—would be the most meaningful of all.

Since seeing the Buddha, my heart has been filled with such immense Dharma-joy. A smile has remained on my lips, and it feels so natural. When I think back to my past life, I realise that it was truly impossible for me to summon such a smile from within. It is a feeling of profound coolness and peace in the heart.

A Debt of Gratitude and Karmic Affinity

I must express my deepest gratitude for this good Causal Condition. I am so thankful to my younger relative, Huiping, for her compassionate heart in arranging this Chao Du for me. Your mind-capacity has made your life in this world much smoother, and it has also provided you with the affinity to study the Buddha’s teachings.

Huiping, you know as well as I do that we cannot take any worldly wealth with us when we depart. But you must hold firmly to the aspiration for rebirth in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. You must let go of everything completely and chant one Buddha's name to the end. You are not as young as you once were; beyond doing good deeds, you must truly and diligently study the Buddha’s teachings. Use your own abilities to help more people come to know the Buddha’s teachings.

The Truth of Life and Letting Go

Please help me share the news of my rebirth in the Western Pure Land with my family. Even if they might not necessarily believe it, do not take it to heart. Everyone’s good roots are naturally different.

The words I am speaking now are so different from the concepts I held in the past. This is only because of the Buddha’s compassion, which has purified me. Only today have I been able to gain the realisation of what it truly means to let go.

So many people spend their entire lives struggling and striving for themselves. But in the end, what have they truly gained? I hope you can all take a moment to reflect on what is actually worth pursuing in this life.

Breaking Free from the Cycle

When my life in that world concluded, I was trapped by my own attachments and entered a dark space. I wandered in that space for such a long time. Now, I have finally been able to shatter the person I used to be and reshape my spirit. It is an incredibly fortunate thing.

I am now reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I hope that those who have the affinity to study the Buddha’s teachings can truly understand the need to seek liberation, and more importantly, understand how to achieve that liberation. There are too many joys and sorrows, meetings and partings in this life. I hope that fewer people will have to endure such suffering. I hope even more that everyone will stop clinging so tightly to this physical body. If you can resolve to follow the Buddha’s actions, you too can achieve spiritual liberation.

I am no longer the person I was. The name 'He Fulian' belongs to my past. I hope that those who have a connection with me can change their lives because of the words I have shared today. I am not very good with words, but I have done my best to contribute my small part. I truly hope that everyone can come to believe in the Buddha.

Finally, I offer my gratitude to the Buddha, and even more, I offer my deepest gratitude to Practitioner Su for guiding me to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
