The Sage's Long-Awaited Deliverance
An Interview with the Spirit of Zhuangzi
Recorded at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
This is a record of an interview with the spirit of Zhuangzi, who sought Spiritual Deliverance at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Land of Nature. This account reflects upon his life approximately 2,300 years ago. Recorded by the chief writer, Fa Ning, on March 8, 2026.
Zhuangzi speaks:
"Namo Amituofo. As a human relates to the Tao, so too do the yin and yang relate to the heavens and the earth; just as the sun and moon relate to the surging tides. In the Northern Darkness, there is a fish, and its name is Kun. If one considers the greatness of Kun to be unreal, why not consider the vastness of the earth to be level? In ancient times, King Mu of Zhou travelled ninety thousand miles to the West; today, Practitioner Su’s divine feet traverse the entire Dharma Realm.
I have witnessed here, at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, the salvation of beings that the people of the world could never see. Namo Amituofo. I am Zhuangzi, a celestial being of the twenty-eighth heaven. In the human world, I was known alongside Laozi, and together we were referred to as Lao-Zhuang. After thousands of years, the spirit of Zhuangzi finally found the opportunity to ascend to a higher level. This opportunity arrived because Namo Amituofo is currently residing at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Practitioner Su, an awakened being who has realised his true nature and attained Buddhahood, has used his countless manifestations to open up the space of China’s five-thousand-year history—and even further back—to save the sentient beings trapped within."
A Blessing for the World
"This is truly a blessing for China. To encounter a Great Sage appearing in the world—and to call him 'Great' signifies that he is rare even among sages—is a profound event. This Great Sage is Practitioner Su. Because of his vows and actions, he has moved Namo Amituofo to descend and reside in this world, granting the human beings of Earth the opportunity to receive the benefits of the Dharma. Practitioner Su’s massive effort to save the spirits of China is not only a salvation of the spiritual realms but also a salvation of the human world. In the human world, the words and actions of people are influenced by the spiritual realms; therefore, by using the majestic power of the Holy Name 'Namo Amituofo' and the , Practitioner Su has purified the entire space of China, saving immeasurable and boundless sentient beings, including many demon crowds. In doing so, he has simultaneously saved the people of China."
The Mystery of Space
"The nature of space is indeed incredibly mysterious. Those with sensitive bodies can see the situations of space with their own eyes; as the degree of purification increases, one becomes able to see into different depths of space. My method of practice, within the context of the three teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, belongs to the Taoist school. I wrote the book Zhuangzi, which has been praised by people of that time and by later generations. However, to me, these things have nothing to do with me. With a pure body and a pure heart, Taoism advocates 'abandoning sageliness and discarding wisdom'; this is a simple heart-method. If a person wishes to gain something from the book Zhuangzi, they will find it difficult to learn its essence, for Zhuangzi does not consider himself a sage, nor does he consider himself wise. If one wishes to understand the Tao of Zhuangzi, one must see it in the plainness and simplicity of the heart. In other words, when I wrote the book Zhuangzi, it was merely a natural occurrence; it was not intended to be passed down for a hundred generations. It was left only for those connected by karmic affinity, to fulfil their Causal Conditions. How much one gains depends entirely on oneself."
The True Nature of a Sage
"Looking at the Taoist lineage from Laozi to the present, there have indeed been many who attained the Tao throughout China’s thousands of years of history. While their methods of practice may have differed in their outward manifestations, the principle remained the same: to make one’s heart move towards non-action, detachment, and selflessness. This is the unchanging principle. So, what is a 'True Man'? One whose heart and actions are nearly in accord with the Tao is a True Man. What is a 'Sage'? One whose heart and actions are in perfect accord with the Tao is a Sage.
A Sage walks the path of the Tao because they have , no selfishness, and no-action. This is perfectly embodied in Practitioner Su at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, for he has truly achieved selflessness and sacrificed himself for the sake of all beings. This time, in order to save China, Practitioner Su, with great wisdom and great , started from the fundamental level. He sent a vast number of demon crowds from all over China into the Western Land of Dharma Nature. As a result, he suffered joint attacks and retaliation from the demon crowds. Although he endured extreme suffering, his vows and actions were not diminished in the slightest; instead, his courageous and fearless spirit was highlighted, which I, Zhuangzi, deeply admire. More importantly, Practitioner Su established the Western Land of Dharma Nature, a Buddha-land that provides a place of settlement for the demon crowds who have received . This allows the demon crowds the opportunity to be reborn in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss. Even those among them who possess the , , and can, by following Namo Amituofo to save the world, have the chance to turn their around. All these things demonstrate that Practitioner Su is worthy of the title of a Sage through the ages."
A Long-Awaited Breakthrough
"After I passed away, I entered the twenty-eighth heaven of the Celestial Realm. I lived a life of ease and freedom, yet I never reached the ultimate truth in the twenty-eighth heaven. Eventually, my celestial lifespan would come to an end—this was a problem I knew of in the Celestial Realm, but one I could not solve. However, after ascending to the heavens, I felt that one day, on the land of China, I would encounter the opportunity for a breakthrough. For these two thousand three hundred years, I have been watching the developments in China. Although other sages appeared during that time, due to the Causal Conditions of their manifestations, they could not provide practical help for my situation. Thus, I waited.
Until recently, the land of China began to shine with immeasurable and boundless golden light. That was the countless manifestations of Practitioner Su. Under the golden Buddha-light emitted by Practitioner Su’s manifestations, which shook the earth, the entire space of China was filled. Even the most subtle and deep spaces were purified, and the spirits within were saved, entering the Western Land of Dharma Nature."
Gratitude and the Path Ahead
"Seeing the grand event of Practitioner Su’s Chao Du, I knew the time had come, and I followed the golden light. At this moment, I am sitting on a lotus seat in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, respectfully listening to the great Dharma of Namo Amituofo. In his Dharma talks, Practitioner Su expounds upon the universal principles and the righteous path of Truth. I, Zhuangzi, feel as if I have received sweet dew; I am extremely grateful. With the most solemn and respectful attitude, I prostrate before Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su, thanking both for their compassionate salvation. They have allowed me to break through the level of my spirit, avoid falling back into the cycle of rebirth, and gain the opportunity to enter the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Now, Zhuangzi resides in the Western Land of Dharma Nature, chanting the Holy Name 'Namo Amituofo' every day. This inconceivable majestic power, this most precious treasure—I, Zhuangzi, have now obtained it. When I descend to the world again, I hope to be like Practitioner Su, to save all boundless suffering sentient beings.
Gratitude to Namo Amituofo, gratitude to Practitioner Su.
Namo Amituofo.
Zhuangzi"
