The Wailing Wind of Sorrow

On the third day of September in the year 2017, a mournful and piercing sound echoed outside the temple. It was the wind, wailing with a sorrow that seemed to carry the weight of countless souls. These beings had arrived too late to join the main proceedings of the grand assembly, and as the ceremony was already drawing to its conclusion, they found themselves waiting in the cold air outside. They stood under the watchful gaze of the Dharma Protector Skanda, waiting for a chance to be heard.

We counselled these spirits to be patient, assuring them that they would receive the full benefit of the ceremony the following morning. We urged them to remain calm and to maintain a peaceful heart, so as not to cause any interference with the ongoing Dharma assembly. It was a moment of profound stillness, where the boundary between the seen and the unseen felt incredibly thin.

The Endless Cycle of Ancient Wars

The Wind Spirit, acting with great , had guided this vast multitude of suffering beings to our doors. They were the warriors of the Mongolian desert, souls who had endured the agony of brutal warfare for ages. They had remained trapped within the dimensions of their own violent history, unable to find peace. Through a thousand years of the cycle of rebirth, these layers of time and space had piled upon one another, and they had never truly been able to leave the battlefield of their past.

It is impossible to measure the depth of the bonds that held them in this cycle of samsara. Among them were not only the soldiers, but also the elderly, the weak, the women, and the children who had suffered alongside them. The generals, the soldiers, and even their horses remained, all bearing the heavy, visible scars of their past lives. Their bodies were covered in wounds, and their hearts were filled with deep-seated resentment and confusion.

A Heartfelt Plea for Deliverance

They asked themselves, in their collective sorrow, for what purpose they had offered their loyalty and sacrificed their lives for the nation. They had only ever sought the peace and stability of their homes and their country. Yet, they saw only the foolish rulers who sang of peace and prosperity while the soldiers perished in vain. How many brave souls had lost their lives for nothing? For a thousand years, they had been unable to escape this space of suffering, trapped by the karmic consequences of their actions and the chaos of their era.

The Compassionate Path to the West

Fortunately, in this lifetime, they encountered Practitioner Su. Through this connection, they were finally able to seek rebirth in the of Ultimate Bliss. With a single, sincere recitation of Namo Amituofo, the path opened before them. Guided by the light of compassion, they began their journey to the West, leaving their suffering behind to find true happiness.

  • Memorial Tablets: The Wind Spirit brought forth a vast, immeasurable number of generals, soldiers, horses, and the suffering elderly, women, children, and civilians who perished in the Mongolian desert. Also included are the spirits of the physical world—wishing to be as free as the wind, mountains & rivers, and the dust that were destroyed by the ravages of war.
  • General Representative: Gu Wangsheng, representing the injustice of their lost lives.
  • Horse Representative: Red Colt, seeking restoration, peace of mind, the laying down of armour, a return to their ancestral home, and the healing of their homeland.

These spirits have now entered the Western Land of Dharma Nature at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. This message was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Cao Rudi, acting as chief writer.
