The Testimony of Lay Practitioner Guan Youxing: From Hell to the Western Pure Land
A Journey of Redemption and the Amituofo Village
Recorded by Master Haize at Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre
The Weight of Unseen
My name is Guan Youxing, and I once lived in Hong Kong. Several years ago, my life came to a sudden and tragic end. I suffered a sudden, sharp pain in my heart, fell into a deep state of unconsciousness, and passed away. Upon my death, I did not find peace; instead, I descended into the hells to endure immense suffering. During my time in the human world, I had been an active member of a Taoist temple. I contributed my own money, served in important positions, and truly believed that I was performing virtuous deeds. However, I failed to realise that the person in charge of the temple was secretly engaging in actions that violated the conscience. Because I did not possess the wisdom to discern the truth, I became entangled in his karmic web. After my death, I was forced to bear the heavy burden of those karmic consequences and suffer in the hells to repay my debts according to the laws of karma and cause and effect.
The Salvation of True
It was only through the grace of my wife, who encountered Practitioner Su, that I was finally rescued from that dark place. I am now residing within the at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. This place serves as a vital station—a gateway before one reaches the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Here, I listen to the sutras to deepen my understanding of the Western Pure Land, and I make the sincere vow to be reborn there. During the assemblies or through the process of Chao Du, I can be guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This is a truly magnificent opportunity, one that is difficult to encounter in millions of years. This is what true Chao Du is. Otherwise, the living may spend money on rituals, but if the deceased does not receive the actual benefit, it is a wasted effort and truly not worth it.
The True Purpose of Life
Throughout my life, I was constantly searching for a genuine method to save the world and help others. Unfortunately, I searched in the wrong direction, which led to the loss of my precious human life. I never imagined that only after my death would I encounter the practitioners of the Pure Land school—Practitioner Su and the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. I cherish this karmic affinity deeply. Now, my two children are also following the path of purification and practice. I hope they can find their true self, realise the value of life, and exert their inherent abilities to save not only themselves but also all beings connected by karmic affinity, helping them all to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. If we do not do this while in the human world, we come empty-handed and we leave empty-handed. We cannot take anything with us, except for the heavy burden of our karmic fruits. That is a truly terrifying prospect.
The Vision of the Amituofo Village
When the Amituofo Village at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre is fully established, it will certainly be able to help many helpless people who do not know where to turn. They will be able to come and reside there, and their days will no longer be spent in vain, passing one day after another without purpose. Instead, they will have a clear direction, preparing themselves for the great migration to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I truly hope that my mother, my wife, my family, and all those with the necessary will be able to join the Amituofo Village. In this way, there will be a guarantee for their rebirth in the Western Pure Land, and their lives will not be spent in vain.
A Warning from the Spirit World
Master Haize: I would like to ask you, Lay Practitioner Guan Youxing, during your time in the human world, were there moments when your body began to feel unwell? Did you experience any specific illnesses, pain, or periods where your spirit was unfocused, or perhaps times when you felt drowsy and drifted into other spaces?
Lay Practitioner Guan Youxing: In truth, my body did often experience sensations of soreness, pain, and bouts of being drowsy. Because of my lifestyle, I had frequent contact with these spirits, and I mistakenly believed that this was the cause of my condition. A more significant event occurred when I was forty-five years old. In a dream, I saw my wife and two children being suddenly swept away by a flood while crossing a river. I rushed to save them, but in the process, I was also swept away by the raging waters. I woke up in a state of shock, covered in cold sweat. From that moment on, I often felt an uncontrollable chill throughout my body, and I lived with a persistent sense of unease. Perhaps others could not see it, but I could feel it within myself. It turns out that at that time, one of my three hun souls and seven po souls had entered the dream and were swept away by the flood. Even though I was missing one hun soul and one po soul, I continued to live my life as usual, but my body began to undergo these subtle, yet profound, changes.
