The True Meaning of Saving Sentient Beings

The Third Letter of Venerable Nun Fuhui

A Testimony from the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre

This testimony was recorded on July 23, 2017, at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre. Venerable Nun Fuhui, a dedicated practitioner who sought deliverance at the centre, shares her profound insights regarding the transformative power of the and the unique presence of Namo Amituofo at this holy site.

Venerable Nun Fuhui speaks:

"Today is a momentous day at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre—it is the day of our Thrice Yearning Ceremonies. My eyes have been opened wide. Every single week is different; what I see is an ever-increasing number of sentient beings from the entire realm of emptiness rushing here. Every one of them is desperate to seek rebirth in the Western Land of Ultimate Bliss.

The Radiance of the Buddha

Here, the spirits can see the golden light. The Buddha-light shines down with such intensity. When sentient beings arrive suffering or afflicted with physical ailments, they are bathed in the Buddha-water, which restores them to their original state, allowing them to leave suffering behind and gain happiness. It is precisely because of this that are willing to resolve their conflicts, or if they are not yet ready, they are willing to go to the Dharma-Nature Land to listen to the teachings. The great compassionate vow and the power of possessed by the great , Practitioner Su, have successfully created a true Buddha-land—a place where Namo Amituofo truly resides within the temple.

In Taiwan—no, let us not limit this to Taiwan, let us speak of the entire world—magnificent and opulent temples are everywhere. Yet, not one of them has the true Namo Amituofo residing within. I, Fuhui, bear witness to this here, and I earnestly call upon the leaders of all the great mountain monasteries: if you could all possess a great mind-capacity and visit this place just once to understand the truth of the matter, then the inheritance and flourishing of the Buddha’s teachings would truly have hope.

The Urgency of Practice

The fourfold assembly at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre only wishes to contribute their modest efforts. Under the leadership of Practitioner Su, they are helping sentient beings return to the Western Land. Such attainment, such skillful means of the Pure Land path—if everyone could master these skills, it would truly be a blessing for all beings. But do not forget: the true source lies in how we change our personality traits and latent habits while we are still human, so that we have the true attainment to go to the West. We must not wait until we become wandering spirits, hoping for someone else to perform Chao Du for us.

Here, yes, Practitioner Su at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre can teach us these skillful means of practice. You do not need to wait until you have fully grasped the complex theories of the great sutras, because our time is running out. The spirits of impermanence are always by our side, waiting for an opportunity. Do we still have the luxury of hesitation? Practitioner Su, in his , has even recorded live 'Dialogues with the Buddha' on the internet. If you cannot travel to the temple for group cultivation for a time, we can still draw closer to the Buddha through Practitioner Su’s Dharma talks and the daily Words of Namo Amituofo.

A Warning Against Selfishness

The Buddha’s teachings emphasize Faith, Vows, and Practice; merely talking without practising will not work. For those who wish to specialise in 'How to Implement the Forty-Eight Vows of the Infinite Life Sutra,' you may consult Practitioner Su one-on-one. To the devotees and the head of the Daxingshan Temple: I am not trying to diminish our own confidence or boost the morale of others, but the fact remains—who else has the ability to facilitate a 'direct flight to the West'? This is an undeniable truth. If we, out of selfish motives, refuse to introduce the infinitely compassionate Practitioner Su to our devotees at Mount Jiuhua, we will be burdened with a heavy karmic debt, for this is equivalent to severing the wisdom-life of others.

The Buddha’s teachings speak of the 'oneness' of all beings. We must never, for the sake of self-interest, cover up such a holy site that truly enables a direct flight to the Western Land. In this life, I, Fuhui, have not yet been able to reach the Western Land myself, nor have I been able to lead our devotees to rebirth in the Western Pure Land. Having encountered the rare presence of Namo Amituofo residing in a temple, with Practitioner Su as our navigator, how could we be so selfish as to keep this hidden from others? I, this nun, am waiting for you at the temple to come and verify this for yourselves."
