The Truth Beyond a Nation's Legacy
An Interview with the Spirit of Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew
The Ninth Letter from the Western Pure Land
This testimony was recorded on July 25, 2017. It features the spirit of the late Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, who sought deliverance from the suffering of the hells. Through the compassionate intervention of Practitioner Su at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre, he was saved and successfully guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, where he now resides.
Lee Kuan Yew speaks:
"Greetings to everyone. I am Lee Kuan Yew. I come from Singapore. From what was once a small, overlooked territory, it has grown into a formal nation and a major international metropolis. It is a hub where large-scale international conferences, economic exchanges, cargo logistics, gourmet food, and fashion design competitions are held. It is a place filled with towering hotels and buildings—a melting pot of various races and nations. Though the land is small, it is complete in every detail and exquisitely refined. This entire process was the result of a lifetime of effort by myself and many dedicated officials. It took countless struggles and immense perseverance to achieve what exists today.
The Reality of the Soul After Death
However, now that my physical body has passed away, many people might assume that a man of my stature would be blessed by the Lord and enjoy a peaceful life in Heaven. In reality, my soul was suffering and wailing in the hells. It was only when Practitioner Su of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre called out my name that I was rescued from the hells and brought to the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Through the conducted by Practitioner Su, I was guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I am now residing in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. My gratitude is truly infinite!
The Inescapable Law of
What I wish to convey is this: when a person comes into this world, they arrive with nothing, and when they leave, regardless of their great achievements or their poverty and failure in life, they depart with nothing. There is only one thing that follows you, and that is your 'karma.' No matter how many lifetimes pass, unless that karma has been dissolved, it will follow you without fail. It will not miss a single detail. This is the precious Truth that I have learned this time. Regardless of which religion you followed in life or how important a position you held, 'karma' does not change, increase, or decrease. You must face it yourself; no one can take your place. This is the fairness of the Truth.
Every single action I took in life—every right and every wrong—was being judged by the Truth. There was never a moment where I could luckily escape it. I now know that the Truth does not change based on personal likes or dislikes; that is the unchanging nature of the Truth. The Buddha's teachings are the Truth, and those who practise the Truth are Buddhas. Over many past lifetimes, I am grateful for the of the Buddha, which allowed me in this life to be saved by Practitioner Su and to be reborn! Furthermore, during the Thrice Yearning Ceremonies, I have been blessed as Practitioner Su has performed for my parents, teachers, and from many lifetimes, guiding them to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I am so grateful! Otherwise, as Practitioner Su explained while teaching the Sutras, when I descended from the Western Pure Land, I would still have had to pay for the things I did in the past. But now, I have been saved by Practitioner Su, and not just saved—I have been guided to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss! My karmic creditors no longer need to continue living in different spaces, trapped in the cycle of the six realms of existence, suffering through birth, aging, sickness, and death. Practitioner Su is helping them leave suffering behind. So, this is what compassion truly is!
The Path of Purification
Here, I am still learning. The purpose of this learning is purification. Once purified, one can find one's original, pure self-nature. Only then can one make decisions that are truly correct and in accordance with the Truth, and only then can one truly benefit the people, ensuring they are not harmed and can live in peace and prosperity. It turns out that if a national leader studies the Buddha's teachings and finds their self-nature, they can bring the greatest welfare to their people. If I had had the karmic affinity to receive the teachings of the Buddha back then, then the Singapore of today... alas! All that is in the past has already passed. Fortunately, I must have had a affinity with Practitioner Su and Namo Amituofo in my past lives, which is why I was able to be saved and reborn in the Western Pure Land at this time!
A Message to My Son
Hsien Loong, my son, I wonder if you can feel the weight of these reflections? A human being is so small and insignificant in the vastness of the universe. Today, you shoulder the mission of leading the nation forward. In your busy and demanding days, you need the guidance of a bright lamp to navigate the right path. The Buddha's teachings, the Pure Land, and Namo Amituofo are that bright lamp for you. They are right here at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, which is the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. I hope you can visit this place; then you will know that your father’s words are not empty. Perhaps you may have your doubts—after all, such a difficult thing to believe cannot be proven in a few short words. Then, come and see for yourself! Seeing with your own eyes is worth more than any words. Your father is waiting for your arrival."
Written by Lee Kuan Yew
The message was recorded by the Buddha's disciple, Venerable HaiZe.
