Recorded and transcribed by Namo Amituofo’s disciple, Venerable HaiZe.

Namo Amituofo’s discourse:

The state of 'True and False as One' is the hallmark of those who have realised their true nature. It signifies that the true self and the false self—the physical body—can exist in perfect unity. They are able to coordinate with one another, yet remain independent, free from any external interference. In this state, one is able to dwell constantly in a realm of meditative concentration, purity, permanence, and eternal .

The Harmony of Body, Heart, and Spirit

For those who have realised their true nature, , heart, and spirit are in harmony. This meditative concentration and purity of the body, heart, and spirit are absolute. They are not affected by changes in any one of these aspects. Even if the physical body encounters various situations, such as the onset of old age or illness, the meditative concentration, permanence, and purity of the heart and spirit remain entirely undisturbed.

Acting from the Wisdom of the True Self

When one reaches the state where the true and false are as one, all actions and words flow from the depths of wisdom. Within this prajna wisdom, one’s speech and conduct are no longer influenced by or the interference of beings. One is able to transform the external environment rather than being transformed by it. This is the power of turning the 'dependent retribution'—the world around us—through the strength of our 'proper retribution'—our own state of mind.

One can clearly perceive the suffering of beings and, guided by a compassionate vow, engage in the practice of saving them. Relying on the natural capabilities of the : eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind, one can effectively help beings leave suffering behind. Throughout this process, the body, heart, and spirit remain unpolluted and never retreat from the path, regardless of any interference encountered.

The Western Land of Ultimate Bliss

The Western Land of Ultimate Bliss is a realm constructed entirely upon the foundation of Namo Amituofo’s Forty-eight Great Vows, where every single vow has been brought to fruition. It is a world where all heart-felt wishes are realised. In that realm, one can practise within the state of Infinite Life—where lifespan is boundless—and Infinite Light—where radiance is limitless.

By dwelling in this environment, one can rediscover their true self. One can reclaim the original nature where the true and false are as one, ultimately achieving the goal of every being of the Western Land: to realise one's true nature and attain Buddhahood. This is the fundamental vow of Namo Amituofo: to establish a Buddha-land that assists beings in attaining Buddhahood. Only by realising one's true nature and attaining Buddhahood can one truly leave suffering behind and no longer be forced to endure the endless pains of being reincarnated.

Namo Amituofo.
