The Wisdom of Great Master Yinguang: A Sanctuary for Pure Practice
An Interview with Great Master Yinguang
Recorded on November 1, 2020
The Great Matter of Life and Death
Sentient beings have wandered through the vast, immeasurable reaches of time, life after life. If one does not realise the truth and transcend the cycle of birth and death, one remains trapped within this endless loop, unable to escape the profound suffering inherent in existence. How many beings truly understand the depth of this suffering? Without a path to liberation, we remain lost in a state of self-indulgent delusion, clinging to this fleeting life as if it were permanent. It is difficult for beings to awaken from this dream.
In the cycle of rebirth, countless spirits are born and die, ending one life only to begin another in an endless, exhausting sequence. You must develop a sense of urgency. The matter of life and death is the most critical issue you will ever face. You must view the escape from this cycle of rebirth as the single most important goal of your existence, aligning yourself with the Universal Principle, the Truth, and the Right Way.
Transcending the Worldly Self
From the time I appeared in this world until my entry into the , I have witnessed the entirety of the cycle of life and death. It is only through this experience that I have truly learned to see through the illusions of the world. You must constantly remind yourself that the greatest danger in your practice is indulgence. This is my warning to the world: do not be led by your own mind, for the mind is prone to constant change and instability. In this world, you can see the nature of worldly affairs everywhere. Do not flow along with the dust of the world; your heart must not be worldly.
In your practice, you must learn to break through your limitations. Do not be overly attached to your physical body. You should view your body as nothing more than a worn-out garment. A garment serves only to cover ; it is not something to be adorned with luxury or vanity. Your body is merely a vessel used to seek your true self; it is not meant for seeking external display or worldly recognition.
A Sanctuary in Troubled Times
The state of the world today is vastly different from the past, and we are now witnessing the karmic consequences of our collective actions. The difficulty lies in the fact that the worldly heart has not yet turned toward the truth. There is no true purity, and everywhere one looks, there is only the dust of desire. It is difficult for a mind filled with impurity and confusion to find peace. The world is already filled with false appearances.
However, there is one place that stands apart: the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. This is a place of true purity. You should truly cherish the opportunity to practise in such a sanctuary. Under the guidance of Practitioner Su, the centre advances into the realm of meditative visualisation to perform the work of for immeasurable and boundless suffering beings. This is a magnificent achievement that is difficult to fathom.
The Compassionate Path of Practitioner Su
The world is filled with immeasurable and boundless karmic sins, much like the habits and personalities of the fourfold assembly of disciples that have yet to be transformed. Practitioner Su compassionately bears the suffering of these beings. This great, compassionate mind is the true method of practice, and it is also the truth behind breaking through the limitations of the physical body. This body can be used in infinite ways; the importance lies in how you expand your mind.
If your mind is limited to your own self, then this magnificent work of saving beings and rescuing the world will be difficult to spread widely. If you realise that your mind-capacity can be vast, then this infinite and boundless Chao Du can break through all self-imposed limits. It can become as great as you allow it to be, expanding without end.
The Call to Universal Deliverance
Practice is an individual journey, yet it is also a way to contribute to the benefit of all beings. Through your own practice, you can take charge of your life. The manifestations shown by Practitioner Su are supported by the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and the virtuous powers of the heavens also protect this place. This is a rare and precious , a magnificent opportunity that is difficult to encounter.
To perform the work of saving beings throughout the universe and to lead the way in rescuing the world—this requires great courage and great strength. All disciples of the Buddha should learn from this example. I, Yinguang, also join in this work of saving the world and protecting this place of Dharma. It is my sincere hope that this sanctuary for pure practice will continue to spread its influence throughout the world. Immeasurable Light, Immeasurable Life, Namo Amituofo.
