This is an interview with Venerable Chang Ren, who sought at the Hsiang Kuang Buddhist Centre in Australia. He now resides in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. This account reflects upon his journey from the Demon Realm to liberation. It was recorded by the chief writer, Shi Fajing, on March 17, 2023.

Venerable Chang Ren speaks:

"Namo Amituofo. Every time I mention Practitioner Su—whom we affectionately call 'Grandmother'—my heart is filled with nothing but gratitude. Without her boundless , I would never have had the opportunity to escape the Demon Realm. Furthermore, the countless demon crowds who have come here seeking deliverance would never have had the chance to attain liberation.

The Weight of Immeasurable Sins

Can the sins we created in the past ever be fully repaid? Every Demon King and their 'demon children and grandchildren' dare not even contemplate this. The we created is simply too deep and heavy. When we look out, we see an immeasurable and boundless ocean of karma. How could we ever repay it all? Now, we can only actively seize every single day, following Practitioner Su in the work of Chao Du. Whether it is the Universal Bodhisattvas, the Galactic Bodhisattvas, or the new Buddha-children, everyone is doing their utmost at their respective posts, delivering sentient beings within the spaces connected to them by karmic affinity.

When Practitioner Su begins the Chao Du ceremony, all the Universal Bodhisattvas, Galactic Bodhisattvas, and new Buddha-children see their past karmic connections opened by her compassion. They witness how many spirits they harmed when they were demons. Every one of them feels deep remorse. They do not dare to be lazy for even a single second; they only wish to help these beings, whom they once harmed, leave their trapped spaces as soon as possible and attain liberation.

The Burden of Past Harm

I am no different. Practitioner Su has assigned me to lead these Universal Bodhisattvas, Galactic Bodhisattvas, and new Buddha-children. I, too, am able to deliver sentient beings, helping those in various spaces of karmic connection to chant Namo Amituofo and depart from their suffering.

When I first saw the sheer number of beings I had harmed, I was momentarily at a loss. I cried out in my heart, asking the Buddha: 'There are so many beings; how can this child ever repay them? My sins are truly grave!' I repented incessantly, begging these beings to forgive my past wrongs. However, many of these beings were still living in the resentment they felt at the moment they were harmed. They were not willing to resolve the conflict immediately. I had no choice but to continue chanting Namo Amituofo to help purify them. I must wait until they are willing to forgive me before I can successfully rescue them from their trapped spaces.

A Magnificent Opportunity for Liberation

My Buddha is compassionate, and Practitioner Su is compassionate. They have given us the opportunity to save sentient beings through the method of Chao Du. We can help those we harmed, or those with whom we have had karmic connections throughout our many lives, to attain liberation and leave suffering behind. For this, my heart is filled with immense gratitude.

The reason I mention this today is that the Universal Bodhisattvas, Galactic Bodhisattvas, and new Buddha-children all feel this deeply. Seeing the suffering of these beings makes our hearts ache as if they were being cut by knives. Although we no longer possess a human body, we still have this opportunity to save sentient beings. This Causal Condition is so magnificent and precious; everything is due to the compassion of Practitioner Su.

A Call to Awaken

If the Buddha did not come to lead us, where would these beings go? Spirits who have lost their human bodies have a profound understanding of the suffering of the spirit and the necessity of liberation, yet human beings in the world are not always so clear-headed. I look at the human beings across the entire Earth, I look at the fourfold assembly of disciples in the temple, and then I look at all the spirits who have not yet had the chance to receive Chao Du. I sigh in my heart and pray for the Buddha's blessing, hoping to help these beings awaken as soon as possible. Do not be attached to this world; you must seek the Pure Land.

Namo Amituofo."
