Vowing for Rebirth in the Western Pure Land

The Compassionate Call of Namo Amituofo

My child, you must learn to recognise Namo Amituofo. You must come to know the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss as your true destination. The Forty-eight Great Vows were established specifically to rescue all suffering spirits from the cycle of rebirth. Namo Amituofo appears before you, standing tall with His golden arms lowered in infinite compassion, ready to receive those who turn to Him.

The Radiance of the Buddha’s Light

The Buddha’s light shines down upon you, piercing through the deepest darkness of the netherworld. The sacred Buddha-name resonates through the air, filling the entire void of the universe. This light and sound are not merely external; they are the call of your true self. You must combine your own efforts with the power of the Buddha to make progress on this path. This is the dual power of self-effort and Buddha-power working in harmony.

The Path of Precepts, Concentration, and Wisdom

You must practise the Precepts through your Body, Speech, and Mind. Do not engage in evil thoughts or actions, for they only serve to bind you further to the cycle of rebirth. Through deep meditative concentration, you can block the afflictions and worries that trouble your spirit. You must vow to dwell securely in the state of Samadhi. When your wisdom is awakened, your true self will shine forth, and the light of your true self will be revealed.

Returning to the True Home

When you are fully equipped with the Precepts, meditative concentration, and wisdom, your wishes will be fulfilled. You will successfully vow to be reborn in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss. Turn away from the long, weary cycle of rebirth that has kept you wandering for aeons. Like a wanderer finally returning home, you shall return to the Western Pure Land in this very life.
