A Journey Beyond the Physical Realm
Practitioner Su addressed the spirit of Venerable Wuhong: "You passed away due to illness in mainland China, and it was Practitioner Su who led you to the Western Pure Land. Venerable Wuhong, it has been a long time. Today, in order to compile an introduction regarding the fact that Namo Amituofo truly abides at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre, I am interviewing you. You have witnessed the operations of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre from the Western Pure Land and have seen how the Buddha saves infinite suffering beings. You must speak of these things so that your fellow practitioners of the 'Wu' generation may understand."
We respectfully invite Venerable Wuhong, who resides in the Western Pure Land, to accept this interview.
The Reflections of Venerable Wuhong
Venerable Wuhong spoke:
- The world is but a fleeting illusion.
- Now, in the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, I seek my true nature.
- I listen respectfully to the sounds before the Buddha.
- I diligently seek the Dharma and repent for my past.
- Arrogance and biased paths once caused my to manifest.
- I departed this life amidst the suffering of illness and death.
- I am deeply grateful for the of Practitioner Su, who sent my spirit to the Western Land.
- My long-held vow to chant the Buddha's name has been fulfilled.
- Once I attain Buddhahood, I will return to the human world to follow the Buddha in saving all suffering beings.
Venerable Wuhong has been gone for many years. In the past, he served by the side of his teacher, Venerable Master Chin Kung, for many years before eventually departing. That time spent with his teacher was the most fulfilling period of his life. His teacher was well-versed in the Sutra, Vinaya, and Abhidharma Pitakas, and his profound explanations of the Pure Land teachings were deep yet accessible, benefiting beings of all spiritual capacities. This inspired many to learn and chant the Buddha's name, providing them with a spiritual home and leading to the widespread growth of those who vow to be reborn in the West.
The Trap of Arrogance
Because Venerable Wuhong was by his teacher's side, arrogance grew in his heart. He did not realise that his originally pure and good nature had become obscured. When his karmic forces manifested in his physical body, he often suffered from illness. Even after leaving his teacher's side, he remained a monastic, yet he could not overcome the suffering of illness. When he was bedridden in mainland China, Practitioner Su compassionately came to visit him. Her words helped him understand the impermanence of . Although his heart opened, he still could not overcome the demons of illness and death, and he passed away.
At that moment, his spirit was suddenly illuminated by the Buddha's light. A warm current flowed through his entire body, and he was quickly transported to another place. It happened to be during a . He saw Practitioner Su leading the assembly and asking him, "Do you wish to go to the Western Pure Land?" Venerable Wuhong immediately knelt before the Buddha. Practitioner Su compassionately manifested before his eyes and led him into the Western Pure Land. Venerable Wuhong continued to chant the Buddha's name, never daring to let the recitation cease.
Life in the Western Pure Land
In an instant, he arrived in the Western Pure Land. It felt as if the West was right before his eyes, and he reached it swiftly. From that moment on, Venerable Wuhong became a being of the Western Land. In the West, Namo Amituofo continuously gives Dharma talks 24/7. Venerable Wuhong listens to the teachings of Namo Amituofo as the Dharma sounds flow endlessly. Sitting before the Buddha, one can sit for a long time; there is no limit of time in the West, and the listening to the Dharma never ceases. Suddenly, he heard the words, "Please invite Venerable Wuhong to accept an interview." It was Practitioner Su, calling his name from the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Goombungee, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia. She wished to interview him, and the content would be included in the introduction to Namo Amituofo's presence at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Venerable Wuhong gladly accepted and waited for the interview, which is how this account came to be.
The Inconceivable Work at Hsiang Kuang
From the Western Pure Land, Venerable Wuhong can see the situation at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. 24/7, Namo Amituofo stands majestically in the Buddha hall of the temple, receiving beings from the Ten Directions of the Dharma Realm who come to pay respects and seek . Often, vast crowds of demons also come to seek surrender. Skanda , Sangharama Bodhisattva, and all the Dragon and Heaven Dharma Protectors of the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre orbit the temple to maintain order as spirits arrive and to watch over the fourfold assembly of disciples.
The Thrice Yearning Ceremonies held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are the most important events at the temple. In a space invisible to the physical eyes of humans, one can see Namo Amituofo leading the ceremony. Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva, the thirteen generations of Pure Land patriarchs, and many other holy beings all appear. This includes the First Patriarch of the Huayan School, Venerable Dushun; the Third Patriarch, National Master Xianshou; the Fourth Patriarch, Great Master Qingliang; and Great Master Xuanzang. The temple invites many great masters to attend, and Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju is always there, guarding the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.
During the ceremony, every session is filled with spirits, such as celestial beings from the heavenly realms and sages from the Four Sacred Realms, all coming to seek Chao Du. Under the of the Buddha's power, Practitioner Su manifests in billions of forms during the ceremony, reaching into the heavenly realms and the Dharma realms. Infinite suffering beings receive Chao Du, and countless demons are subdued by the Buddha's light and sent into the Western Land of Dharma Nature at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre.
A Call to Practitioners
During the ceremonies, one can hear the teachings of Namo Amituofo and Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju. These profound Dharma meanings become even more distinct through the explanations of Practitioner Su. On days other than the ceremonies, Practitioner Su gives Dharma talks, which consist of the teachings of Namo Amituofo, the teachings of Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, and various interviews. She teaches for several hours a day. The listeners include not only the fourfold assembly of disciples in the human realm but also countless spirits in the surrounding space and infinite beings in the Western Land of Dharma Nature.
This is a brief account by Venerable Wuhong of the activities at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre as seen from the Western Pure Land. From the perspective of the human realm, every event is inconceivable, but from the perspective of the West, everything is proceeding naturally. Today, as the interview began, Venerable Wuhong briefly described his journey of learning the Buddha's teachings and entering the West. In this life, as a spirit without a body, he was able to enter the magnificent Western Pure Land because of the guidance of Practitioner Su. For this, he is grateful to Namo Amituofo and Practitioner Su.
Namo Amituofo's saving of beings is not limited by time or place. He discerns the spiritual capacities of beings and delivers them from suffering. Receiving and leading beings who chant the Buddha's name into the Western Pure Land is a profound grace that Namo Amituofo bestows upon all beings. The human world is full of suffering, and this defiled age is fraught with hardship. The Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss is truly the sacred ground for practice to escape suffering and gain happiness. Venerable Wuhong is able to practise in this holy land, and he hopes that all his fellow brothers and sisters in the Pure Land Learning Colleges and Pure Land societies in the human world will one day come to the West. Today, Namo Amituofo truly abides at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre in Australia. This is a fact well known to the spiritual realms and the beings of the Western Pure Land; however, it remains extremely difficult to make the people of this world realise this truth.
One should overcome all difficulties to visit the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre to pay respects to the Buddha, listen respectfully to the Buddha's teachings, and study the Infinite Life Sutra, which is known to everyone in the Pure Land tradition. The great elder of the Pure Land tradition, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, also has his spirit guarding and watching over the fourfold assembly of disciples at the Hsiang Kuang Pure Land Buddhist Centre. Such a wonderful opportunity should be cherished by all Pure Land practitioners who know of it; they should truly draw near and receive these teachings. The great matter of rebirth in the West must be taken seriously. Practitioner Su's skills are truly capable of leading spirits into the Western Pure Land. Many deceased beings who have received Chao Du have already been led into the Western Pure Land by Practitioner Su. Although the physical eye cannot see this fact, through the many interviews with those who have been led into the Western Pure Land by Practitioner Su, we know that this is the truth.
Venerable Wuhong expresses his gratitude here to Namo Amituofo, Teacher Practitioner Xia Lianju, his teacher, Practitioner Su, and all the brothers, sisters, and fourfold assembly of disciples of the Pure Land Learning Colleges and Pure Land societies. Venerable Wuhong will continue to practise diligently in the Western Pure Land. Once his practice of the Buddha's path is successful, he will certainly return to the worldly realm to follow Namo Amituofo in saving all boundless suffering sentient beings and leading all those with karmic affinity back to the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss.
Venerable Wuhong, spoken personally.
